A CNN report on the anti-GOP protests contains this gem:

At least 5,000 protesters stood on sidewalks Wednesday morning in a 3-mile line, waving pinks slips to highlight their dissatisfaction with the economy. The demonstration, which stretched from Wall Street to Madison Square Garden, formed a symbolic unemployment line for about 15 minutes to draw attention to the 8.2 million Americans unemployed as of July.

A "symbolic unemployment line"--you've got to love it. As we noted Tuesday, if these people actually were to look for work, the unemployment rate would rise, presumably hurting President Bush's re-election prospects. Bush is lucky his opponents are so lazy.

You don't know whether or not these protesters are unemployed. They are protesting the economy & REPRESENTING the unemployed. To assume that all the protesters are unemployed is nonsense.

To call them lazy is a big insult. I didn't go to NY, but I have participated in many other protests, and it is not an activity for the lazy. It is exercising our right to free speech, something more of us should be doing instead of sitting around complaining.

I can't believe they let you be a "community leader" here. Not only are you insulting a large group of people in this thread, by implication you insult all protesters.

Not to mention the other times you posted messages to me personally that were blatantly rude.

Who's clueless? People who denigrate free speech activities.

Oh, you want me to take them seriously? Yeah, nothing says Herbert Hoover like a SYMBOLIC unemployment line! Maybe they could really bring the RNC to it's knees with a SYMBOLIC soup line.

And if I were to post messages, one after another, insulting large groups of people, and insulting specifc people, I suppose then I would be banned, while Renee continues to spew hateful insults. Incredible, but then, I've come to expect that kind of arrogant strutting from republicans, pretending to be engaging in dialogue.

PLEASE continue to call the unemployed "lazy" at every opportunity you have, preferably in a battleground state. Maybe you could also call the poor "stupid" and the sick "weak." And please identify yourself loudly as a Republican when you do so. Just goes to show how insensitive and conservatives can be.

I don't know what's got into you today that you're calling people "monkeys" and "clowns" but I have to say it comes across as pretty ugly. No doubt you've been inspired by the week of chest thumping at the RNC.

What's wrong with a symbolic protest? Guess what - they got the jobs issue in the news, which was their goal. Seems like their symbolic protest was a concrete success.

And before you say there is no jobs issue, because Bush's tax cuts have generated millions of jobs, maybe you should review these numbers. Remember...numbers don't lie - unless they're compiled by the Bush administration.

"Chart: Jobs Added or Lost During Each Term"

Bill Clinton (1993-96) +11.6 million jobs

Bill Clinton (1997-00) +11.4

Ronald Reagan (1985-88) +10.8

Jimmy Carter (1977-80) +10.5

Lyndon B. Johnson (1965-68) +9.8

Franklin D. Roosevelt (1941-44) +7.7

Richard M. Nixon (1969-72) +6.0

John F. Kennedy / Johnson (1961-64) +5.7

Roosevelt (1933-36) +5.5

Nixon / Gerald R. Ford (1973-76) +5.2

Reagan (1981-84) +5.2

Harry S. Truman (1949-48) +3.3

Roosevelt (1937-40) +3.3

Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-56) +2.8

George H. W. Bush (1989-92) +2.5

Eisenhower (1957-60) +0.8

George W. Bush (2000 - 04) (-1.2)

Herbert Hoover (1929-32) (-6.4)

Discussions with the 'neo-conned' degrade to playground antics quickly.

Kerry served honourably in Vietnam.

He came back and protested the war, as was his right, and lord knows how many lives he and other Vietnam protesters saved ultimately.

His testimont has been twisted out of context to serve political purposes and that dishonours him and other veterns.

As does the Purple Heart bandaids at the RNC.

How about the contempt Cheney showed for troops in Vietnam by seeking five deferments?

"I had other priorities in the '60s than military service."

Or Bush?

"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment. Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."
