A CNN report on the anti-GOP protests contains this gem:

At least 5,000 protesters stood on sidewalks Wednesday morning in a 3-mile line, waving pinks slips to highlight their dissatisfaction with the economy. The demonstration, which stretched from Wall Street to Madison Square Garden, formed a symbolic unemployment line for about 15 minutes to draw attention to the 8.2 million Americans unemployed as of July.

A "symbolic unemployment line"--you've got to love it. As we noted Tuesday, if these people actually were to look for work, the unemployment rate would rise, presumably hurting President Bush's re-election prospects. Bush is lucky his opponents are so lazy.

I have been expositing on what I think of those protesters, their methods, their intellect, their judgement, and the response that they are seeking.

If you would like to engage me in a politcal discussion as metrochick has, go head, but you're not going to stop me from posting my opinions about those people and their actions.

The New York Times fired Jason Blair, immediately gave a detailed and complete accounting of every falsehood he reported, and then the top 2 editors resigned. When will President Bush fire ANY of those responsible for ANY of the lies, distortions, or scandals which seem to be the hallmark of his term. No one is held accountable. The opportunities are many - the Plame case, Abu Grahib, hyped intelligence, misleading terrorist reports, the Richard Foster debacle (they threatened to fire him if he provided Congress with accurate estimates of how much Bush's new drug benefits would cost) - but the more this administration screws up, covers up and clams up, the more "loyal" the President is to his people. Maybe he should try being loyal to THE people.

I repeat what I said in post 2 of this thread.

Who's clueless? People who denigrate free speech activities.

And I'll add, arrogant, self satisfied, argumentative people do not make positive contributions to intelligent debate. If all you want to do is criticise large groups of people with inaccurate broad generalizations, why don't you get off your computer & go pull weeds, ... or something.

And I've told you that no one has the right to do or say whatever they want WITHOUT ANY CRITICISM.

Why do you have such a problem with me excercising my free speech?

OK, I'll repeat myself.

Because, you are making generalizations about large groups of people.

Because you refer to the unemployed as lazy.

Because you are not bothering to discuss the issue, unemployment.

Because you are being dismissive about people exercising their right to free speech.

And lastly, because you seem to enjoy being overly critical of large groups of people, while you are not bothering to attempt to make any positive or constructive addition to the political debate.

Unemployment is a national problem, in case you haven't noticed. Both sides are promoting dramatically different numbers in discussing unemployment. How can that be? Which side is manipulating the truth? Maybe even both sides. But the truth of the unemployment statistics has to be in all those numbers somewhere.

I know from the people I encounter in my job, that I am seeing a lot more unemployed than previous years, and the type of people is different, the types of jobs they are losing is different. Hundreds of small factories in the midwest are closing up shop, the goods are being produced overseas. Some people might say, so what, they weren't being competitive enough. But what happens when the USA has to rely on other countries for more & more of our manufactured goods, especially when our world image is so tarnished. The stories are heartrending. Oh, sorry, I forgot, you don't feel sorry for them, they must be lazy.

Well thanks for citing me as a good example, but the lesson your actions teach is that thoughtful responses don't meet with replies. You've only answered people who haven't responded substantively.

Sorry to bug you. I just got here. I used to post occasionally but haven't in awhile. I don't read the board regularly anymore. Reading through the posts I gather that recently there was some sort of dispute or something that I missed. Anyway, hang in there, kid! You can do it! You've lasted this long so you must be doing something right. BTW I like the way you try to treat everyone as if they were a guest in your home, even when disagreeing with them.

I did not refer to the unemployed as lazy.

The author of the piece I posted referred to a specific group of protesters.

Hold you're horses, it's coming.

Today, I've only had the time & mental wherewithall to swat a few flies. You however, saw the weakness in my post, so I'll have to put some time & effort into a response.

For you, I want to be fresh as a daisy, bright as the morning sun, and sharp as a tack.

Check back with me
