This is priceless! Liberals don't have the courage to run on their own convictions!

Daschle Ad Proves Liberals Must Lie to Win

August 30, 2004

RUSH: As you know, ladies and gentlemen, I mentioned this to you earlier in the program that Tom Daschle -- quietly, underneath the radar -- is running for reelection in his home state of South Dakota. The Democrats are here in (New York City) all week. We've got these anarchists, communists, protesters of all stripes, and here they're and they're making all kinds of noise about how rotten and dangerous Bush is. Meanwhile, the Senate leader, the Senate minority leader, Tom "Puff" Daschle is running an ad for reelection in South Dakota using a photo in which he is embracing President Bush, and this is a photo of Daschle embracing Hitler to some people. This is how bad it has gotten for the Democrats at this point in time. Tom Daschle, President Bush's top enemy in the Senate -- his foe, if you will -- using a photo of himself hugging President Bush. Here's the transcript of the ad:

Senator Daschle: "Tonight the president has called us again to greatness and tonight we answer that call." The narration voice says: "In our country's hour of need, Tom Daschle made us proud," and then Senator Durbin: "Tom Daschle called us together. He said, 'We have to keep this nation safe and secure.' I thought that was one of his finest moments. He really said in those moments what all of us felt, that before we're Democrats, before we're Republicans, we're Americans." Senator Carl Levin is next in the Daschle ad: "Tom Daschle has great inner strength and toughness, which is why Tom is such a great leader." The narrator says, "Senator Daschle helped forge a consensus to rebuild our military," and then they put a headline up. "Daschle: Time to Unite Behind Troops and Bush." Male voice says: "Tom won significant increases in homeland security and helped provide law enforcement new tools to track down terrorists." Another headline: "Daschle, Mayors Pitch Homeland Security." Another headline: "Daschle Calls for More Body Armor for South Dakota Soldiers in Iraq."

To hell with those from North Dakota! It doesn't say that, I just (laughing) only body armor for soldiers from South Dakota, and then the narrator says: "And no one has done more to get our troops the equipment they need and ensure our veterans are taken care of when they get home than Tom Daschle." Their headline goes on the group: "Senator Daschle Receives Unsung Hero Award from American Legion." Do you believe this? This is an ad; they're portraying Tom Daschle as the leader of the war on terror. He's the guy getting Bush to do what Bush is doing. It's Daschle coming up with all the policy and then all these Democrats are out there comparing Bush to the worst mistake that's ever happened in the Free World, saying that Daschle did the right thing. This is just great illustration, and I don't know how Daschle thought this ad wasn't going to escape the boundaries of South Dakota, but this ad is going to be shown. It's going to be out there. We're going to try to get a copy of it and post it on the website, because this just, I mean, undercuts everything in the Kerry campaign. It literally undercuts everything John Kerry is trying to do.

Well, not everything Kerry is trying to do. I guess Kerry is trying to portray himself as Daschle in a sense with his Vietnam service. But it's just another indication of how these people have no identity. Right now, they have no core. They are just flummoxed. They're bamboozled, don't know what to do. Well...and see, this is the bottom line. When it comes time to win an election, Daschle knows what he has to do. This ad firmly illustrates where the American people are. It's a South Dakota ad. South Dakota is a conservative audience, but this is a Democrat and he's not running piggybacking with John Kerry.

Tom Daschle is piggybacking with George W. Bush as he seeks reelection, and note: Daschle is not telling the people of South Dakota what all the great welfare benefits or how much money he's brought home, how much bacon, how much pork. Daschle's not talking about a domestic agenda at all in this ad. He's not talking about health care or whatever these other issues that the Democrats think are hot to trot. He's just heading out there, piggybacking with George W. Bush, and in this one ad you get a greater illustration of what the Democrats know in their hearts and what one of them is actually got the guts to do to win reelection, and it's a diametric opposition to the rest of his party.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

You know, this Daschle ad, it just reminds me of something. As conservatives, be conservative. If you're conservative, run as a conservative. The libs do. When libs have to win, what do they do? They run as conservatives. Here's Daschle out there running as a bigger hawk than Bush! When he wants to win reelection, what does he do? There's no reason for us to go moderate. There's no reason for us to go centrist. There's no reason for us to pursue John McCain or any of these undecideds. Be who we are. Now, about this Daschle ad. F. Lee Levin reminded me, and I had forgotten this. He's our legal advisor here. Flee reminded me that Daschle held up the defense appropriations bill until 9/11 happened.

Daschle was holding that up, the whole authorization for the defense appropriations bill, 2001, Bush's first year, purely political. 9/11 happens, Daschle does a 180, and I remember doing a monologue on this program accusing Daschle of action that was almost akin to sabotaging the Bush war on terror because of this, and I have instructed Koko at the website to go back to our website archives and repost this monologue tonight. We update that website, juxtaposed with Daschle's ad, just to show that liberals have to lie in order to win reelection because Daschle is out there trying to portray himself as something that he's not, piggybacking with Bush. It's a great illustration. All we have to do is be who we are.
