Audience boos as Bush offers best wishes for Clinton's recovery

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) _ President Bush on Friday wished Bill Clinton "best wishes for a swift and speedy recovery."

"He's is in our thoughts and prayers," Bush said at a campaign rally.

Bush's audience of thousands in West Allis, Wis., booed. Bush did nothing to stop them.

Bush offered his wishes while campaigning one day after accepting the presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in New York. Clinton was hospitalized in New York after complaining of mild chest pain and shortness of breath.

Bush recently praised Clinton when the former president went to the White House for the unveiling of his official portrait. He lauded Clinton for his knowledge, compassion and "the forward-looking spirit that Americans like in a president."

We know the people in this country care when something happens. My husband and I are Republicans and definitely were not Clinton supporters but when my husband told me about his health issue, our first thoughts on both ends were we hoped he was going to be ok. Never once did either of us wish any harm to him and I think other Republicans would feel the same. I think although many Democrats clearly do not like President Bush I have no doubt that if he had a problem like this they would wish him well too.

No he hasn't had the bypass surgery yet. I think he may have had a procedure the other day but his surgery I think is at the beginning of the week.

"No doubt his arteries are clogged up with pounds of MacDonalds hamburgers and pizzas."

Well, there IS a ring of truth to that, isn't there? And it's hardly mean-spirited. Heck, a friend of mine who is very liberal and a Clinton supporter said upon hearing the news, "Guess he's gonna have to lay off the doughnuts now."

<<Yeah, I don't trust a thing posted on NewsMax.>>

Are there any particular stories they screwed up, or is this just philosophical?

Remember the backlash from the Wellstone funeral? I think that's what this reporter was trying to accomplish with this story.

I'm glad he got caught. It shows what dispicable hacks some in the media are.

I agree. I am certain most Americans feel the same way.

There will always be a few whackos in any group.

As a whole, Republicans do not inject party politics into human events like the Democrats do. That's one of the differences between the two parties (I know, I grew up in a rabidly Democrat household). Being a Democrat is like a religion rather than a political point of view. Faith (not critical thinking) is what drives Democrats. That's why it seemed perfectly acceptable at the time for them to turn a funeral into a political rally when Mr. Wellstone died.

Republicans view our party more like a point of view. That's why you'll see more differences of opinion in our party, and more respect for human events and tragedies.

Wow.......can't believe you said that after the way the death of Ronald Reagan was politicized by the Republicans! Or perhaps I'm the only one who perceived it that way....
