Bush didn’t fulfill National Guard commitments in Massachusetts either.

Bush fell short on duty at Guard

Records show pledges unmet

In February, when the White House made public hundreds of pages of President Bush's military records, White House officials repeatedly insisted that the records prove that Bush fulfilled his military commitment in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.

But Bush fell well short of meeting his military obligation, a Globe reexamination of the records shows: Twice during his Guard service -- first when he joined in May 1968, and again before he transferred out of his unit in mid-1973 to attend Harvard Business School -- Bush signed documents pledging to meet training commitments or face a punitive call-up to active duty.

He didn't meet the commitments, or face the punishment, the records show.

Even retired Lieutenant Colonel Albert C. Lloyd Jr., a former Texas Air National Guard personnel chief who vouched for Bush at the White House's request in February, agreed that Bush walked away from his obligation to join a reserve unit in the Boston area when he moved to Cambridge in September 1973. By not joining a unit in Massachusetts, Lloyd said in an interview last month, Bush ''took a chance that he could be called up for active duty. But the war was winding down, and he probably knew that the Air Force was not enforcing the penalty.

He was placed into the National Guard over 1000s of other more qualified applicants.

He scored the bare minimum to qualify as a pilot trainee.

He failed on several occasions to report for duty.

He also missed a medical, and was suspended from flying.

Bush has shown contempt for the military many many times.

I could have sworn that when he asked for an received permission to go to graduate school, he was transfered to a non-active unit in Colorado, where he only had to report where he was attending school.

I don't doubt that Bush used some influence to get into the guard, as many children of priviledge did at the time, but it appears that he did fulfill his commitment.

Yes, but the NG division he was transfered to was a non-active duty division located in Colorado (from what I have read). I also read that it was common for those that were granted early dismissal to attend graduate school to have this done as well. I think that these types of divisions would become active if needed...(again, if I am incorrect, please correct me.)
