How do you feel about the Assault weapons ban being lifted? Do you think that our police are in danger?

Okay, honest question for you... precisely what kind of hunting or "sport" are you finding objectionable here? If you're operating under the belief that I'm referring to assault rifles, fully automatic weapons, you're mistaken. The so-called "assault weapons" under discussion here and covered under the AWB aren't fully auto, but rather semi-automatic, functionally no different than any more common hunting arms such as the Remington 1100 or 1197 shotgun or Model 7400 rifles... each pull of the trigger results in only a single shot being fired.

>>>"sometimes it seems like some people want us all to live in bubbles to keep us from as much harm as possible."<<<

I refer to them as Nerf-Worlders... any and all possible means of harming yourself or others must be eliminated by whatever means necessary. Honorable intentions perhaps, but grossly unrealistic.

No sweat on the questions or links... glad to have the opportunity to wipe away some of the mysteries and misconceptions on the subject of firearms.

Okay, thanks. Seems like the wrong guns are being banned then. Thanks for clarifying with your knowledge. Since I have owned and practiced with guns I am not one of the reactionaries about guns and in fact believe if a family owns a gun that everyone in the house, including the kids should learn to fire them. Knowling the power of a gun and knowing how to operate one, IMHO would prevent many accidents.

Which leads to the next question... given that a legally owned, fully automatic firearm has been involved in the commission of a crime exactly one time since 1934, what practical purpose would be achieved by banning them? Doing so would not reduce crime by any measureable amount.

>>>"Knowling the power of a gun and knowing how to operate one, IMHO would prevent many accidents."<<<

Absolutely. While I don't support making training in order to be "allowed" to possess a firearm mandatory, I fully recognize the importance of being properly trained in how to store and safely handle firearms. To my mind it's far better to know how to handle one but not like them than it is to fear them and not have a clue how to handle one. Knowledge is seldom wasted.

It was practically meaningless in the first place. The vast majority of guns deaths are from handguns. But that is the ultimate destination of many liberals anyway. They want complete gun confiscation.
