Welcome to the Bungle!
Bungle: To work or act ineptly or inefficiently, to handle badly; botch, a clumsy or inept performance; a botch: made a bungle of the case due to inexperience.
Charleston, WV – On Friday George Bush will visit Huntington. It’s widely known that Bush bungled the national economy with his failed policies (a record federal deficit of $422 billion), but what about West Virginia’s economy? Yup, his bungled policies hurt the Mountain State too.
The Economic Situation in Cabell County: Higher Unemployment Rate, Fewer Jobs and Fewer Manufacturing Jobs.
Bush’s failed economic policies have cost Cabell County 730 manufacturing jobs. In total, Cabell County has seen a net loss of 330 jobs under Bush. Additionally, Cabell County’s unemployment rate has increased by 10%, from 4.1% to 4.5%.
The Economic Situation in Wayne County: Fewer Workers, Fewer Jobs and Fewer Manufacturing Jobs.
Since January 2001, Wayne County has lost 280 or 20% of all manufacturing jobs, some of the best high paying jobs. After three years of Bush economics there are 380 fewer total jobs in the county. The number of folks looking for work in Wayne County has dropped by 510, meaning they’ve given up looking for work or have left.
The Economic Situation in the City of Huntington: Higher unemployment, Fewer Manufacturing Jobs and Job Growth Not Keeping Up With Population Growth.
Under President Bush, Huntington has lost 2,300 manufacturing jobs, that’s 1 of every 5 manufacturing jobs. The number of unemployed people is higher now than it was in January 2001 when Bush took over. In addition, the total number of jobs created in Huntington over the past three years is not even enough to keep pace with population growth.
Bungler in Chief Says We’re Turning a Corner
George Bush, the Bungler in Chief, has had four years to address the economy. Instead like a true bungler, he’s said we’re turning a corner and the economy is improving. Yet, West Virginia is not experiencing the so-called improvement in the economy. Since Bush took office the Mountain State has lost 11,300 manufacturing jobs, some of the best high paying jobs, and nearly 6,000 West Virginia jobs have been shipped overseas. What’s worse, Bush gave the companies a tax break for shipping our jobs overseas.

Hours Cut at Kanawha Manufacturing. Nearly 50 employees of Kanawha Manufacturing will work only every other week “until further notice†at the 102-year-old company in Charleston’s East End. Forty-seven employees were told of the new intermittent schedule in a “layoff notice†dated Sept. 2.
Clinton Didn’t Bungle Jobs. During President Clinton’s last four years in office, the number of available jobs in West Virginia increased by 36,000. During the first the three years George Bush was in the White House, that number dropped by more than 10,000.
Job gains don’t balance losses, Recent growth falls 1 million jobs short of replacing recession cuts. The U.S. Department of Labor released new data on Friday, showing the national economy gained 1.7 million jobs in the past year. But that gain meant there were still one million fewer jobs than in March 2001, when the recession began. On Friday, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said, “President Bush is now certain to be the first president since the Great Depression to face re-election without creating a single job.â€
