Only two months from Election Day, and after studying the various campaigns since Kerry became the presumptive nominee, I realized that I don't have the faintest idea what Kerry's platform actually is. Is it Gay marriages or or faking wounds in Nam?

According to Kerry, he is against gay marriage but in favor if civil unions. While I personally support legal same sex marriage between two consenting adult human beings, I really have never received a satisfactory explanation of the difference between a legal gay marriage and a civil union. IMO it's just a way to be "against" something and also "for" it-typical Kerry modus operandi. While I disagree with Bush's view on gay marriage, at least he has one.

I think the legal civil union / marriage thing is trying to placate the religious element.

They are basically the same thing, but just called something different.

As long as both are afforded the same protections and provisions under the law, I really dont have a problem with civil unions.
