U.S. Must Become Two Countries

Who else agrees with me?

Half of the country should succeed. It seems very logical as we are all very divided. The neo-cons can get their Christian fundamentalist state automatic weapons available at Walmart(http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/09/politics/09ban.html), women barefoot and in the kitchen and all forms of tolerance outlawed. If that's what the people want they should have it! I believe in democracy but not the tyranny of the majority.

The rest of us will live in a peaceful harmonious society modeled after Scandanavia. We'll have socialized healthcare, outlaw hand guns, provide education for al.

I really think this is the answer! I don't want to leave this country because it is my home but I can't live with the extremist attitudes developing in the last 20 years. I actually like our constitution and the policies of FDR and want to keep them in place.

It's been tried before... the federal government then decided that the states weren't allowed to leave the Union in spite of their being no Constitutional basis for preventing them from doing so.

As far as automatic weapons go, they aren't addressed by the AWB in any fashion, since it deals ONLY with semi-auto firearms. Which of course, illustrates yet again the misinformation being spread by gun control advocates about the Assault Weapon Ban in an effort to protray it (and the firearms it covers) as something it and they are not.

As for tolerance (or lack thereof), just how much tolerance did you demonstrate in your post?

There are different versions of "extremist attitudes" in this country. Yours is just another example.

We agree to disagree. That's fine! I just want no part of your ideal society as does about 50% of the American people. I really think we should break in two. Or at least let Texas legally succeed as was stated in their original agreement to become a state.

What did I say I thought an "ideal society" was? Please enlighten me.

And FYI, I think you mean "secede," not "succeed."

<<"The rest of us will live in a peaceful harmonious society ">>..... with you as an example of "peaceful" and "harmonious", I guess??? I'm sorry I couldn't resist this fairly cheap shot. (matter of speech, I don't own a gun).

Anyone see the movie "Second Civil War"?

I loved it on a tragi-comic scale.

I don't see any extremist attitudes as much as I see an "anything goes" type of culture lately that some of us are just sick of.

The only problem with your scenario is that the vast majority of people in this country would not want to live in either of those two countries. As much as you would like to paint all conservatives as backward, gun totin' religious wackos, and as much as some would like to portray liberals as hippy, communist wannabes, the fact is that most of us fall somewhere in the gray area between the two extremes.

EXACTLY.

The "Age of Irresponsibility" has come to a breaking point with me.

I am sick of the Christian-bashing.

I am sick of the left convincing millions of people that they have to depend on government to take care of them.

I am sick at heart when I see how 12 and 13 yr. olds are having oral sex for fun.

I hate to see the way entertainment has deteriorated to the lowest of animal instincts.

Teachers can't disipline and courts can't convict.
