The General Accountability Office said this week that due to existing limits on involuntary deployments, the U.S. may soon run out of Reserve and Guard units available for deployment to combat zones. Since September 11, 2003, more than 335,000 Guards and Reservists have been activated, and they account for forty percent of the service members in Iraq right now.

219 U.S. service members were injured in Iraq this week, 138 of them severely enough that they were not returned to duty. The Washington Times reported this week that the Pentagon has failed to publicly report 17,000 casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan, by failing to report casualties who suffer from non-combat related illness and injury. The severe human cost of the war in Iraq continues to expand significantly.
