That Al Gore claimed to have invented the Internet has got to be the most

successful flat-out lie since, well, the last one."

for around the billionth time, he did not claim to have "Invented" the internet, though he was influential in bringing it into the mainstream and he did a lof of work in that area, but hey, thanks for bringing up stuff that was pertinent FOUR YEARS AGO.

You're absolutely correct. Here is what he ACTUALLY said:

"I took the initiative in creating the Internet." -- CNN's "Late Edition" show, March 9, 1999.

I don't think I'd characterize Gore's statement as "successful"-a successful lie is one that people actually believe, isn't it?

I don't get it, why is this poster putting up this thread AGAIN????? They did it before a week or so ago and it's no more relevant now. Who cares and what does it remotely have to do with POLITICS TODAY----I THOUGHT that was the title of this message board? Is Al Gore running again?

Well, I guess as long as folks like you and I keep replying, things like this will be posted, LOL. I guess you could make the very marginal argument that since Gore has decided to inject his voice into the election, it goes to his credibility? Kinda thin, I know...

Why does Al Gore lie? What is the inner compulsion that leads him to risk so much by exaggerating, misrepresenting and embellishing? He gets caught every time, but he keeps on and keeps on and keeps on. Kerry is just like Gore !

In fairness to Al Gore, difficult as it is for me to say this because I'm certainly no supporter of his, in this instance I don't think he was lying so much as, well, bloviating as Bill O'Reilly would say. I think he simply miscommunicated what he was trying to say (that his policies helped create the environment in which the internet could emerge) in a rather humorous way. Of course liberals would have a field day if George W. Bush had said it...
