PAKISTAN – MUSHARRAF DENIES REQUEST FOR TROOPS: The war in Iraq is so unpopular in Muslim nations that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, who President Bush calls "a courageous leader and a friend of the United States," has said he cannot send troops because it would be too unpopular in his country. Musharraf reportedly "ruled out sending troops…despite requests from the United States and Iraq's interim government." He told reporters at the U.N. General Assembly that Pakistan could not be seen as "contributing to what has essentially become an occupation force in Iraq."
