"Why were the protesters arrested? There's no law against being pesky, so let's assume these protesters were in violation of some LAW. The law is neutral; it is neither Republican nor Democrat, and the police were not acting partisan in arresting these lawbreakers. The fact that your friend was arrested and treated rudely has absolutely nothing to do with politics. It has to do with law enforcement."

I would have agreed with you totally, until last month. I would love to believe what you say but it's not what I witnessed: I was in town, and out & about, every day the Republican National Convention. The city was a police state. VERY jumpy police were everywhere paranoid and staring at every move every pedestrian made. The result was a lot of people rounded up for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, peaceful protesters getting arrested for disturbing the peace by exercising free speech, etc. My friend in Minnesota is married to a cop and he is a great, cool guy so I will look forward to discussing this all with him... I was not at that specific campaign incident the person is talking about so of course I don't know what happened. anyway...
Just finished watching the debates and teh Senator didn't make excuses. He rocked. Very solid presentation of the facts and his views... against a nervous, defensive, repetitive incumbant. I am going to jump over to another thread now to discuss the debates- cya
