Debate tonight

So, what did everybody think? This debate was my first (missed last yr's) and I enjoyed it. I liked how they were both respectful to each other and professional. No sighing, making facial expressions, slouching etc. I can't wait for the vp debates. :) XOXO.

At the end of the CSPAN one I believe the guy said the VP debate was this coming Tuesday. Anybody know for sure? I can't wait for that one either! Yeah, CSPAN added an extra thirty min's. *shrug* I wasn't sure about it so I watched that instead of another network. It didn't look like anything though, they just showed them leaving and all that stuff. Did the other networks have commercials or just went straight through? I liked what they did at the end of the debate and how both Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Heinz Kerry seemed to comment on each other's outfits. Hehe. XOXO.

Oh, does anybody know why Kerry/Heinz Kerry kids weren't up on stage like Bush's daughters? I was wondering about that. *shrug* XOXO.

Bush's daughter the youngest one is doing her hospital rounds right now trying to finish med school, in between working for her dad. As far as the oldset daughter don't know but I believe she is also in graduate school, the special on MTV showed both girls going back and forth, school and campine. They are great girls.

Jim Lehrer posed some good questions to the candidates.

I think he did a good job moderating tonight's debate.

Kerry looked poised and calm.

He knows these issues inside out.

Bush appeared perturbed at times when Kerry spoke. (Especially when Kerry mentioned George HW Bush’s reasons why as president he didn’t invade Iraq in the First Gulf war)

It’s obviously a sensitive issue for Bush.

My favourite lines tonight:

(paraphrasing)

quoting Richard Clarke I think: 'Bush invading Iraq after 911 would have been like FDR invading Mexico after Pearl Harbour.'

'Usama bin Laden was holed up in Tora Bora and instead of sending the best-trained soldiers in the world to hunt him down Bush outsourced the job to Afghani warlords.'

How many times did Bush say "It's hard work" tonight?

I lost count.

Of interest as well.

I just looked at a couple of internet straw polls.

Who won the debate?

MSNBC

Kerry 71%

Bush 29%

CNN

Kerry 88%

Bush 29%

FOX

no poll

Did anyone else notice the different camera focuses on the candidates in the split screens?

Bush had a longer shot. You could see the 'traffic light' on his podium at all times.

Kerry's ‘traffic light’ was hidden by the graphics in the split screen shots.

Kerry is 5 inches taller so I suppose Bush's campaign had the cameras compensate for Bush’s shortcomings.

;)

What about Kerry's kids (and step)? I was wondering about them too. Thanks.

Oh, yeah. No liberal bias there, nope -- not a bit.

What is your specific complaint about Lehrer's moderating tonight or is this just a general sneer-n-smear?

Or....perhaps we are seeing the emergence of an excuse for Bush's performance tonight?..."Liberal Media Bias"

"I saw on one blog someone said Bush was blinking out 'S.O.S.' in Morse code...."

LOL! I watched the split screen on Cspan too - that explains his twitchy uncomfortable demeanor, he was signaling for Dick to parachute in and rescue him! LOL!
