So, what did everybody think? This debate was my first (missed last yr's) and I enjoyed it. I liked how they were both respectful to each other and professional. No sighing, making facial expressions, slouching etc. I can't wait for the vp debates. :) XOXO.

They did? Where?

I think when Kerry claims he will get others to share in the burden of Iraq, most of us know he is talking about troops (or at least trying to lead us to believe he is talking about troops). Particularly when he mentions it in the same breath as talking about how our troops are shouldering the whole burden.

I agree Candadians are our friends but I think Renee has a point-I've often seen Canadians on these boards complaining that America doesn't appreciate their contributions, but here is a Canadian belittling the contributions of other nations.

I sincerely hope they do not institute the draft. If we were not in this unecessary war we would not have to worry about being over extended. I worry so for those young men and women in harms way. It just makes me sick.

.">>.......plain fact is that you only want larger countries to lessen your burden.

May I remind you, if you are an American, that it is OUR burden of all those troops and dollars, it is WE who are over-extended. And those small countries are too since they are so small. But they don't have the responsibility of being the largest power in the world. We do.

I honestly doubt that a traditional draft would be reinstated, but I can see a mandatory service year or two being instituted. This would be in line with many of the other major countries in the world, i.e. Germany, Israel, etc.

I'll assume you read it somewhere.

<<"They did state that they would not send troops. They also stated that they may, under a new administration be willing to help in other ways.">>....

so: maybe we'll help, but there has to be a new administration first. In the meantime we have been and will be sitting on our hands. So much for France's real compassion to help the Iraqi people secure and build their country eh? All they care about is not giving in to Bush, because that's what they would feel it if they went in and help nów.

It'll be really interesting to see what they will do when Bush wins the elections.

I find it very ironic, that you are criticizing France of staying out of WWII until Germany attacked them, considering the US didn't join the war until its direct interests were involved . . . three years after the war in Europe began. France declared war on Germany in Sept 1939, as soon as Germany invaded Poland . . .

Donna,

I am curious if you have family or friends in Iraq or Afganstain? I know of 5 people in both of those countries. My BIL got back from Iraq 6 months ago and is headed back to Afganstain. You know what is major problem is with this war according to them the soldiers I know. It is the American media bias and untrue account of the war in Iraq. It has made them all sick to see the way the American public as responded, he no longers watch the news, because it so untrue.

Not critizing just stating a fact, France has a whole states out of all wars until they have their panties twisted. And needless to say in this situation they are having their panties twisted by the US. Since they have lost money due to lost contracts with Saddam huessin
