Debate tonight

Thu, 09-30-2004 - 10:54pm
So, what did everybody think? This debate was my first (missed last yr's) and I enjoyed it. I liked how they were both respectful to each other and professional. No sighing, making facial expressions, slouching etc. I can't wait for the vp debates. :) XOXO.

You have proven the point in a most succinct way that it is we Americans who are the huge giant majority

You've gotta keep the economy going, even when you're fighting a war.

Of course. So what does that have to do with giving tax cuts, which was my comment? Oh I see, you are a trickle down theorist, which didn't work when Reagan did it and isn't working this time either.

And i love the fact that Kerry went on and on about building better relationships with our Allies and yet he wants to cut China and everyone else out of the talks with North Korea

That is not what he said. I love how you twist everything he says to make your point. He said he wanted to bring more allies into the summit, not cut anyone out. Bush is the one who said it would cut China out. That doesn't make it so. Kerry then said that just because Bush said it would cut China out didn't make it so, that in fact China had a stake in resolving it as did many others.

At the end of the day I would rather have a super-power like China on our side than France.

You would rather have a communist nation than a democratic one on our side? Interesting. Why not try for both? Why not try to be inclusive for once instead of isolationist?

How about the lives of the over 1000 US Soldiers that have ended, they are not free (not in this world anyway), what about the over 7000 wounded, many of them will have great difficuties for the rest of their lives, they are now, and will always be less free than they were. To rid the world of Saddam Hussein was not a bad thing at all, but was it the best use of the limited resources we have at our desposal? For a soldier to die in the pursuit of Bin Laden who is responsible for killing our own, is much more understandable to me than a death of one of our own in Iraq where most of them hate us and want us out of there. We can only do so much at a time, it is incumbent on us that we not squander the precious lives of our own Sons and Daughters in a country that is not our greatest threat, while hunting down Bin Laden on the cheap.

<33 Allies if you want to get more specific, and please do not put down the efforts of those countries good enough to help us just because they do not equal the forces of the U.S.; it is a really lame argument and quite insulting to those countries (our real allies). >

Thanks Miffy, I'm stunned that Kerry and others who claim to be all about "rebuliding alliances" scoff at the countries who actually did enforce the UN resolution and back the US. Why are France Germany and Russia the only ones that matter to some people? And does anyone really think that those countries would have contributed large troop forces even if they HAD supported us? The US has ALWAYS been the country providing the bulk of the military forces.

I have no idea who you are referring to. The fact that you are keeping track of posts that you think I should respond to is telling IMO.

< The fact that you don't comment on what he posted here, is quíte telling.>

Kerry specifically said he favored "bilateral talks" with North Korea. I don't see how having bilateral talks with North Korea is a way to involve our Allies. Having bilateral talks with North Korea and then telling our Allies what went on in the discussions is not "involving our allies". I think you need to involve everyone who has a stake in the outcome -- especially China. Why does North Korea want to talk just to the U.S.? and why would we give in to their demands?
