Laura Bush and Teresa Kerry give intereviews, make speeches, and in a variety of other ways campaign for their husbands. Is your vote influenced by who the first lady would be? I think you can tell something about a man by the type of woman he marries. I really like Laura Bush and think it reflects well on the President that he chose a bright, well-spoken, calm person for his wife. I also notice the body language of the couples, and I think it reflects something about the personality of the candidate. It would be interesting for a person with relevant training to analyze the body language between John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry: she often seems to pull away from him or turn her head if he leans to kiss her. I also find it unusual that both of Sen. Kerry's wives have had significant fortunes and wonder if that has influenced his choice of a wife.

Hi galanie! Welcome to the board!

I don't think anyone votes for or against a first lady, but she can certainly add to or detract from the campaign.

I wouldn't say that my vote is influenced by the first lady, per se....but, that being said, I do think that the first lady influences my view on the candidate's personality. And if I like a candidate's personality, family values, etc, then that could have a small influence on my choice. I try to just vote based on policy, but I find that if I *like* the guy it helps :)

I don't vote on the first lady either. This is my first election and I do like both Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Heinz Kerry. I'm mainly paying a bit more attention to their husband's who will be doing everything in the House.
