It is truly disconcerting that anyone would think style counts more than substance in choosing a president. Saddam was firing on U.S. planes, ignoring UN resolutions, barring weapons inspectors, hiding the basics for production of nuclear weapons, paying thousands of dollars in reward money to the families of suicide bombers, hosting terrorist training camps, and offering a safe harbor to terrorist leaders long before we invaded Iraq. Iraq was a cancer that would only have grown if ignored. John Kerry and President Bush each looked at the same intelligence and determined that military action was necessary. The Senate - including John Kerry - authorized the use of military force. Now John Kerry would like to divorce himself from the consequences of the vote he cast. The French and Germans and UN officials closed their eyes to Saddam's crimes because it was financially profitable for them to do so. But the 3,000 victims of 9/11, the parents of 300+ children in Beslan, the French and Italian hostages, and the families of beheaded civilian workers all bear witness to the truth that the problem of terrorism must be dealt with in a decisive manner on many fronts if the world and our families are to be safe. So what if John Kerry said with style that he had a "plan" . . .we all know that a summit led by a politician who for months has signaled to the world that he intends to "cut and run when the going gets tough" is no plan at all.
