DRUDGE Report today shows video of Sen. Kerry cheating during debate. Despite agreement by both participants that notes could not be used during the debate - Kerry apparently brought notecards to the podium. LOOKS LIKE THE SMOOTH TALKING SENATOR CHEATED!

Don't crown yourself in glory yet. None of us know how we would react in such a setting, with a quarter of the country watching.

Bush missed opportunities, but so did Kerry... and I'm inclined to think Kerry didn't wish to pile on.

I read a speech by Cheney a while ago... it was given in 1992, and it was all about cutting the defence budget. As Secretary of Defence... he had a say in such things, don't you agree?

He can make suggestions, but not policy as this is up to the legislative branch.

Do you have a link to this information?

I had never read the specifics you are citing before.

>>What did Carter do about the economy?<<

I am a firm believer in presidents not being a huge player in the economic cycle... unless they actively choose to intervene with unusual measures. Clinton did not cause boom, Bush did not cause bust. Carter had little control over oil, and he had all of a year to deal with it. The Federal Reserve is the key player, and they purposely raised rates to control inflation. Reagan skewered Carter of a $40 billion plus deficit. Which was chump change when Reagan had his chance, and basically created a boom by building bombs and sending the bill to future generations.

>>What did Carter do about the mile long gas lines, and the energy shortage?<<

Carter was for alternative energy, and Reagan fazed out tax credits for solar energy.

>>Reagans people met with the Iranians illegally to make a deal for the hostages? I have heard the rhetoric about this for several years that the Republicans wanted the Iranians to hold off releasing the hostages until Reagan was about to take office, to really make Carter look bad, but the actuality was that the Iranians were prepared to do this once the results of the elections were announced, and they knew that Reagan would be in office within 2 1/2 months.<<

Reagan's people met secretly with Iranians. It's been a long time, but I recall a Boston Globe story outlining it all. If a Democrat did that, they would call it a crime and have an independent prosecutor appointed.

>>The Chinese were involved. How else do you explain that during the war, the US lost just over 50,000 men, and the NVA lost over 1,250,000. Where did they keep coming from? The Chinese were supplying the NVA and supplementing them with troops.<<

The Chinese were involved in some ways, but hardly like they could have been. Both presidents knew that crossing a line would have meant total war and maybe a nuclear exchange... and goodbye Taiwan. They can field an army 5 times our size, and they border Vietnam.

No but you have to admit that a vote for Bush is a vote for Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz et al. This is a package deal.

Interesting choice, to say the least. I can't even remember whom I voted for .... how sad is that? I would've voted for Lieberman, but he had already been removed from the ballot by the time the primary in my state (Pennsylvania) was held in May.
