Cheny/Edwards outsourcing dilemma
| Wed, 10-06-2004 - 5:42pm |
During the debate last night Cheny and Edwards got on to the discussion of outsourcing and Kerry/Edwards seemed to be against it and accused Bush/Cheny of being for it (or at least allowing it to happen). But then Edwards started talking about Canadian medication and allowing that to come into the United States. Is this not outsourcing?
any comments on this would be helpful. Thanks

You are absolutely correct. Edwards suggested that we get our drugs from Canada b/c it is cheaper. A definite form of outsourcing. If you listened closely he also suggested that we slam the American companies that are over in Iraq helping to rebuild and outsource the effort to countries in that region who did not support the war. That alone is absolutely stunning that he would make such a suggestion considering the Kerry/Edwards position on outsourcing. However I have grown used to that pair constantly talking out of both sides of their mouth.
Look up the definition of reimportation and your question will be answered.
Does the production of these prescription drugs cost less in Canada? No. How do I know this? The batch numbers that are run when there is a recall of a drug in the US are the same numbers issued for Canada. So the same company sends the same drugs to the US and to Canada but they cost less as soon as they are on the Canadian side of the border. Does that make sense to you?
Instead of Kerry and Edwards suggesting they buy drugs from Canada (which will, of course, peak demand for those drugs in Canada and cause a price increase here) why not put pressure on the drug manufacturers to lower the prices in the US? The only reason the drugs cost less in Canada is because we have parliamentary limits imposed on the drug manufacturers.
But no one, not Bush and not Kerry, not the US Congress nor Senate are willing to take on the powerful drug cartels (no, not the ones in Colombia, the ones within your own borders) Pfizer, Merck, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, etc. etc.
So to you Americans I say, don't come up to Canada and screw up our system, fix your own.
