Bush/ Kerry and why?

Hello There!

I am very new to this board but have found most of the information I have read to be informative and thought provoking.

In regards to the election coming in November, I have one question that still plagues my mind.

What is more beneficial to our country?

A candidate (George W) who has not striven to settle doubts about whether he has been a good, effective and knowledgable president.

or

A candidate (John Kerry) who has not proven to hold many realistic promises for his idea of "a stronger America"

I am an independant, this year to be the first year that I have found myself devoting ample amounts of time to deciphering the actual "truths" (although I must admit, the spin has got me quite confused) through media left/right biased, to independant sources.

For all of you who seem to share similar ideologies with either one of the candidates, what can you provide me as an independant, without using slanderous rhetoric, in regards to supplying me with more information. And for those of you who feel or think strongly in regards to a particular party or the other, please supply me with good arguments as to why your candidate is the best fitted for the job. I strongly request negative comments about the other candidate to remain low, for believe you me, I have heard it all. What are each candidate's stregths.

Thank you

I look forward to hearing from ya'll

I'm for Kerry. I just posted several things in the Debate reflections thread, start with post #80.

Thank you very much. I wonder that you are the only person who has responded to my inquiry. Your information was awesome and once again, thank you for your efforts in helping an independant voter decide. Now, are there any more people out there who have any interest in responding? It concerns me that I have recieved only one reply, when in such a close race for the presidency, both parties have acknowledged that it is the independant voters who will a greater impact. I have read other posts that claim that independant voters or "stupid" or do not care. Perhaps it may be more accurate to state that independant voters are not convinced yet. Is it more important to debate amongst others who already have their minds made up, or are we just trying to convince ourselves that we know the most "facts". Please help me understand.

Thank you allianor, it is redeeming that somebody is trying to help us "virgin" voters become more educated.

Hi. I've just been doing a lot of reading and watching movies and after all that I've decided I'm for Kerry. This is my first election and I'm very excited and hopeful for the canidate I've chosen to support. I agree more-so on the democratic view. Seperate of Church and State, pro-choice and the enviornment to name a few issues. You can also go to http://www.thekerrymovie.com and download the Kerry documentary they have out now. It's legal and free to download. I downloaded it (on a cable modem) and only took about an hour. It's a great movie and shows you what the Vietnam war means to Kerry and he is a great leader. Oh and the people who made the movie want people to see it to get to know Kerry a little bit better.

Here are a few reasons I will vote for Kerry:

1) I think that he will be more able to relate to the leaders of other countries during summits, conferences, etc.

2) I like his plan to make health care more affordable.

3) I agree with his tax policies.

4) I have similar views to him on abortion, gun control, and stem cell research/scientific practices.

5) I feel John Kerry will fund education and help to solve problems with the No Child Left Behind Act.

Honestly, this is rather difficult for me, because to me it comes down to which candidate has views that are the closest to mine. For example, if you are against federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, that wouldn't be a positive for you, although it is for me. In order to make a decision, I would look at the platforms on each of the candidate's websites georgebush.com and johnkerry.com on the issues that you care about. Then, I would go to factcheck.org (a non-partisan website-- the one Cheney tried to refer people to at the VP debate) and see which claims and allegations are false. Hope this helps.

Thank you

You all have been very helpful and curiously, all Kerry supporters. Now if any republicanns or Bush supporters want to reply...you are welcome....why so silent? Are you at all interested in gathering support for your president hopeful? If so, please give me some info...

Bush supporters have very little to back up their beliefs IMO. They just say things like he's steadfast. Or he's going to protect us. But from my point of view, we are less safe now. Bush doesn't even care about catching Osama bin Laden anymore.

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."

- G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

"I want justice...There's an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive,'"

- G.W. Bush, 9/17/01, UPI

"...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county . Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...."

- Bush, in remarks in a Press Availablity with the Press Travel Pool,

The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on

official White House site

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

"I am truly not that concerned about him."

- G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts,

3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

I agree. Someone, can't remember who, keeps asking for people to say some things that Bush has done but I haven't heard anybody reply.

It's gotten to the point that no one can speak their opinion without being criticised, or called a basher, even Walter Cronkite.

Hey guys, this thread is NOT supposed to be bashing Bush. There are enough threads that do that. Rainyskip clearly stated that she didn't want any Bush and/or Kerry bashing in this thread. Let the Bush supporters have their say (I'm actually very curious to hear what they have to say), and let Rainyskip read the other threads if she wants to read partisan spin about the other candidate. Please.
