Bush/ Kerry and why?

I am very new to this board but have found most of the information I have read to be informative and thought provoking.
In regards to the election coming in November, I have one question that still plagues my mind.
What is more beneficial to our country?
A candidate (George W) who has not striven to settle doubts about whether he has been a good, effective and knowledgable president.
or
A candidate (John Kerry) who has not proven to hold many realistic promises for his idea of "a stronger America"
I am an independant, this year to be the first year that I have found myself devoting ample amounts of time to deciphering the actual "truths" (although I must admit, the spin has got me quite confused) through media left/right biased, to independant sources.
For all of you who seem to share similar ideologies with either one of the candidates, what can you provide me as an independant, without using slanderous rhetoric, in regards to supplying me with more information. And for those of you who feel or think strongly in regards to a particular party or the other, please supply me with good arguments as to why your candidate is the best fitted for the job. I strongly request negative comments about the other candidate to remain low, for believe you me, I have heard it all. What are each candidate's stregths.
Thank you
I look forward to hearing from ya'll

- character is important and President Bush has shown a steadiness of character based around core values - love of God/nation/family; belief in the importance of democracy and freedom - that do not change with the political wind of the moment;
- national security is the number one issue and President Bush has shown that he will act forcefully in a variety of ways on multiple fronts to destroy terrorists and terroristic governments (reforms of our intelligence capability; military action in Afghanistan and Iraq; multilateral negotiations in N. Korea; diplomacy in Libya and Saudi Arabia, etc.) even when he must make difficult decisions to do so - further he has been careful to focus the war on terrorism and not on any religion;
- education is a top priority and President Bush has doubled funding for education during his administration;
- taxes are too high and President Bush has cut taxes; each family is best able to determine how its money should be spent for their well-being and when citizens have more money to spend, the demand for goods and services increases/jobs are created/the economy is stimulated;
- home ownership is an important way that families are incorporated into the American dream and under this administration more Americans own their own homes than at any other time in our history;
- honesty in corporate America is important and under this administration corporate crooks are being prosecuted;
- the President has taken moderate approaches to controversial issues such as stem cell research and abortion - supporting research using adult stem cells and already existing fetal stem cell lines and taking a stance against the most egregious form of abortion on demand, partial birth abortion;
- the President has recommended realistic measures to protect the environnment such as funding to research alternate fuels for powering automobiles;
- the President exhibits a positive, can-do attitude that is essential for a leader.
I don't believe that President Bush is perfect - no one is. But I think he did a remarkable job of pulling this country together after 9/11 and focusing our attention on moving forward to protect ourselves and rebuild.

I'm new to the board as well. I have to say that I've ignored all of the mumble jumble that they promise and the debates and the talks because it's rather confusing to me until. I do want to vote, and it was just recently that I started asking questions and trying to figure out things in my head, but I just don't know who???
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that feels like this!!!
Mayte
for me:
foreign policy
the economy
education
the environment
and that list will help you make better sense of the information you gather for your decision-making process. my first presidential vote was cast in 2000 and that is how i went about deciding in the months leading up to it.
it's a gigantic and heavy-weighing choice- but it's YOUR choice. so try to figure it out on your own terms.

Bush is ruthless in squashing his opponents and McCain was no exception.
