Here's the link: http://jesusisaliberal.org/

Just a little bit from the page:

Peacemaking, not War Making: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Resist

not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. I say unto you, Love your

enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and

persecute you;

The Death Penalty: Thou shalt not kill

Crime and Punishment: If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. Do not judge, lest

you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured

to you.

Justice: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the

merciful: for they shall obtain mercy But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your

trespasses.

Corporate Greed and the Religion of Wealth: In the temple courts found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and other

sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle;

he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. Watch out! Be on your guard against

all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Truly, I say unto you, it will

be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Paying Taxes & Separation of Church & State: Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the

things that are God's.

Community: Love your neighbor as yourself. . So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.

If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.

Equality & Social Programs: But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed,

because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.

Public Prayer & Displays of Faith: And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in

the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…

Strict Enforcement of Religious Laws: If any of you has a son or a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take

hold of it and lift it out? The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

Individuality & Personal Spiritual Experience: Ye are the light of the world.

Amen!

It never ceases to amaze me how the religious right in this country identifies themselves as Christians... Hello... people out there, do you know what Jesus your Lord was about?

He was NOT for killing, he was NOT for squashing the poor and nearly poor under foot. Why don't you take a look at what you are saying and admit that you are being like the Jews and Romans who persecuted Him and killed Him when you are for making war or the expliotation of those weaker than you! Please try to think again what our teacher was about!

"What never ceases to amaze me is the way people will disgenously use religion."

And present quotes from the Bible like so many sound bites (seems that's all some people are capable of grasping) while obviously having no clue what they really mean. People who have actually read and studied the Bible understand the context behind these passages.

That statement is absolutely the most disgusting one I've heard. What about abortion? What about gay marriage? What about taking something you haven't earned? I really want to vomit and could easily do so after your impotent view of who Jesus is.

"The Death Penalty: Thou shalt not kill "

I wonder why liberals always trot out this verse when talking about war and capital punishment, but conveniently forget it when it comes to abortion?

What about the death penalty? What about divorce? What about any type of sex outside of marriage?

BTW, if we ammend the constitution against gay marriage, shouldn't we do the same for divorce which is also against biblical teaching? Just a thought...

As with anything, it's clear we even interpret Jesus' message differently.

There is a difference.

Capital punnishment and war are both things that are directly carried out by the state. Abortion is an individual act upon which the person who recieves one or performs one will be judged, punished or perhaps even forgiven by God (depending on other factors).

For the record, my views on abortion are probably similar to yours.

Ah, another passage often taken out of context. :-) Read the rest of Matthew 7 and then get back to me ....

I'm confused. Which statement exactly is so disgusting to you?

<>

It just so happens that this particular passage doesn't deal with that (are you reading some sort of alternative implied meaning into that?) Also, Jesus himself never mentionned gays. Does this make him disgusting to you? It is known that Jesus walked among the poor, alienated and downtrodden, including prostitutes and I wouldn't be surprised if there were not a few gay people among those he chose to consort with (as homosexuality has been around since the dawn of mankind).

To be fair, crownotangelgrl merely posted a link to something someone else wrote and it is a very interesting subject to debate. Personally, I happen to think that Jesus WAS most likely a liberal.

Unfortunately, I find myself again pulling out this quote that I used in response to another poster:

"Do not judge, lest you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "
