Here's the link: http://jesusisaliberal.org/

Just a little bit from the page:

Peacemaking, not War Making: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Resist

not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. I say unto you, Love your

enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and

persecute you;

The Death Penalty: Thou shalt not kill

Crime and Punishment: If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. Do not judge, lest

you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured

to you.

Justice: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the

merciful: for they shall obtain mercy But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your

trespasses.

Corporate Greed and the Religion of Wealth: In the temple courts found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and other

sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle;

he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. Watch out! Be on your guard against

all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Truly, I say unto you, it will

be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Paying Taxes & Separation of Church & State: Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the

things that are God's.

Community: Love your neighbor as yourself. . So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.

If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.

Equality & Social Programs: But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed,

because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.

Public Prayer & Displays of Faith: And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in

the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…

Strict Enforcement of Religious Laws: If any of you has a son or a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take

hold of it and lift it out? The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

Individuality & Personal Spiritual Experience: Ye are the light of the world.

As I've just stated, my father is an ordained minister, and a Bible professor/Dean of the school of the arts at the college is employed by. Furthermore, he has his PHd in religion/Biblical studies from Duke University. I would say, his understanding of the Bible exceeds the average American's. And he is voting for Kerry.

Biblically speaking, IRAQ is an unjust war. And our current administration is responsible for KILLING thousands of innocent civilians.

I never said anything about voting/not voting for Kerry. I never mentioned Kerry at all; in fact I think you're the only one who has. All I said was that most people tend to quote Bible passages out of context. Ask your father about the meaning of Matthew 7 (not just the first two verses). I think it means something completely different than what most people think it does.

Suemox- I mean this when i say it, AMEN!

Please stop portraying all democrats as abortion supporters. NOTHING is that black and white.

I HATE abortion. But that issue alone does NOT decide my vote.

Very well...I re-read it (because it has been a while).

I'm still not sure how you are interpreting it. Perhaps you can enlighten me and we can discuss the differences in interpretations.

Well, I don't want to get too deep into Bible discussions here, cause I know some folks will find that offensive. ;-) But the point of the entire chapter is basically to beware of false prophets and focus on God's will instead ("Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." Matthew 7:13-14). It's not saying that people should not be condemned or punished for their sins.

Well, I would guess that Jesus is probably above partisan politics. He was fairly all-encompassing and would most likely be able to see the good and bad in both the liberal philosophies and the conservative ones.

That being said, many of his teachings embrace a great many of same princials that liberals do....so yes, there is no denying that in some ways, Jesus was a liberal.

Thanks for the interesting link.

I also want to take the time to say that since you have started coming here you have been resonsible for posting a great many interesting and thought provoking links and information and they have breathed a lot of new life into this board by providing many opportunities to debate a great many subjects.

I am impressed by the amount of research you do and am encouraged to see a young person such as yourself taking the time to learn about and discuss many different subjects.

Hi Sunlovey,

I am surprised and impressed with your Dad's background and his support for Kerry. Yesterday at PTA meeting of my kids school, I met a sweetest lady(a fellow mom) both of us are very similar in our parenting styles etc but she is ProBush and I am Prokerry. She made a comment that in public school they teach some liberal junk. Since I didn't want to debate with her about politics I let it pass, but I am still curious as to what she considers liberal junk, because I consider myself liberal and she seemed to be beleiving the same things I beleive. I am very puzzled at this liberal label used in negetive way. ?The funny thing her husband works in the same company as I , they have gone thru the same hardship as we have. She was complaining about inflation, healthcare etc(her husbands' very sick)and she still supports Bush???? I wonder why???very curious to me..

Sorry to go offtrack...

Ah....who cares of people are offended by bible discussions. LOL

There is nothing offensive about the bible....there is however, offensive ways to interpret it (I'm not saying in any way that YOU are interpreting anything in an offensive manner).

Funny that you should bring up the false prophets thing. I was tempted to bring it up myself but restreained myself.

Here is the quote:

<

7:16

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

7:17

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

7:18

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

7:19

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

7:20

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.>>

Remember that this is only my opinion and you can take it with a grain of salt but under Bush's soft wooly sheep's clothing, I detect a wolf peeking out (either that or Cheney is his pet wolf).

Again, this is all a matter of interpretation as well but the attempt to bring about democracy by force in Iraq (based upon misleading evidence). I wonder what kind of fruit will come out of it?

Again, before you argue the other side (because this passage can be interpreted differently)...Bush might be thinking along these lines:

<>

This is all well and good but one wonders if his motivation was entirely pure. Bush stood to gain a lot personally from this war that he started in Iraq.

<<"What never ceases to amaze me is the way people will disgenously use religion."

And present quotes from the Bible like so many sound bites (seems that's all some people are capable of grasping) while obviously having no clue what they really mean. People who have actually read and studied the Bible understand the context behind these passages.

Bev>>

I think that you are making an assumption that because some people might have a different interpretation of the bible that they are unable to "grasp" more than just a sound bite. Sure, some people do but not all and I'm not sure that anyone with any certaintly can put their hand in the fire and say that THEY have the correct interpretation.

This is like assuming that all conservatives are unable to "grasp" what's going on today because Bush can only really communicate in sound bites taken out of context.
