Here's the link: http://jesusisaliberal.org/

Just a little bit from the page:

Peacemaking, not War Making: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Resist

not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. I say unto you, Love your

enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and

persecute you;

The Death Penalty: Thou shalt not kill

Crime and Punishment: If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. Do not judge, lest

you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured

to you.

Justice: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the

merciful: for they shall obtain mercy But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your

trespasses.

Corporate Greed and the Religion of Wealth: In the temple courts found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and other

sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle;

he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. Watch out! Be on your guard against

all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Truly, I say unto you, it will

be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Paying Taxes & Separation of Church & State: Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the

things that are God's.

Community: Love your neighbor as yourself. . So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.

If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.

Equality & Social Programs: But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed,

because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.

Public Prayer & Displays of Faith: And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in

the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…

Strict Enforcement of Religious Laws: If any of you has a son or a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take

hold of it and lift it out? The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

Individuality & Personal Spiritual Experience: Ye are the light of the world.

Again what is your point? Anyone can study the bible and use it to their own advantage.

"I think that you are making an assumption that because some people might have a different interpretation of the bible that they are unable to "grasp" more than just a sound bite."

No, I'm saying that some folks can't be bothered to learn the true meaning behind the passages (and really, much if not most of what's in the Bible is pretty cut and dried, and not a matter of "interpretation") ... they just pull out verses that they use out of context to suit their own purposes ... yes, in much the same way that people take politicians' quotes out of context to suit their own purposes.

Right. I don't like abortion either but it's not right to force my beliefs on someone else about the issue and make it illegal. Would you want someone to do that to you?

I also want to take the time to say that since you have started coming here you have been resonsible for posting a great many interesting and thought provoking links and information and they have breathed a lot of new life into this board by providing many opportunities to debate a great many subjects.

I am impressed by the amount of research you do and am encouraged to see a young person such as yourself taking the time to learn about and discuss many different subjects.>

You're welcome. I saw it and just wanted to share it. Thanks for the comments. This election is important to me and I just wanted to do as much reading as I can and share with others what I read whether it's pro-Bush, pro-Kerry etc. I know I've posted more pro-Kerry but that's because I agree along the lines of it. *shrug*

"Just because he is a minister does not mean he knows any more than anyone else."

IMO,

the Only criticism Bush faces because of his faith is his interference in personal lives such as violation of pro choice rights, gay rights etc... which is a very personal thing. I am an immigrant in USA and if I have more right than a gay couple who are natural born citizens, just because I am straight, means unfairness in the system. Don't you think? God created them gay, how can govt. have different laws for them? I really don't get it. Same manner abortion is a private issue so based on his faith he makes policy on abortion, he forgets that many many people in this country follow different religion, In their religion they may not beleive that life belongs at conception or they may. IT is very personal and this is where Bush has forgotten to draw a line. Many religions beleive that foetus is not human untill it comes out of the mothers body. Because each human has a soul and you cannot have two souls in one body because that is possession of mom's body by another soul. Also you cannot make bold claims that God is on your side in case of a war. A truely religious person would not make such claims in a situation where so many people are going to die.

A person with a phd in a specific field often times has greater knowledge of that particular subject than a person who does not.

However, my point was more to say that there are numerous Christians out there voting for Kerry. Supporting/voting for Bush and a person's Christian faith do not go hand in hand. It's a rampant misconception that needs to be dispelled.

I've heard the word liberal being so bad, but after reading everything with the Jesus site I don't think it's so bad. *shrug* I believe it was either Bush or someone in his camp said that Kerry is the most liberal person in the Senate. Wouldn't that be a good thing?

"Even if Bush does win and make it illegal and clinics are shut down people will still try to do it."

Great. The same message that's spread for every Republican candidate since abortion was legalized. When are people going to learn that this "God-given" "right" and "privilege" is not going to be taken away?

>>>Just because we share the same concerns doesn't mean we agree on how to handle them. One of the great liberal misconceptions is that they have the only right answer to the problem.<<

I don't really claim that liberal way is the best way, but the conservative way didn't work for last few years for us, so why not try the liberal way. Also I don't want to hear the stats about the employment etc.. because those stats can be interpreted many ways, but we both agreed that situation was getting worse.
