Just a little bit from the page:
Peacemaking, not War Making: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Resist
not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. I say unto you, Love your
enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and
persecute you;
The Death Penalty: Thou shalt not kill
Crime and Punishment: If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. Do not judge, lest
you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured
to you.
Justice: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the
merciful: for they shall obtain mercy But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your
trespasses.
Corporate Greed and the Religion of Wealth: In the temple courts found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and other
sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle;
he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. Watch out! Be on your guard against
all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Truly, I say unto you, it will
be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Paying Taxes & Separation of Church & State: Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the
things that are God's.
Community: Love your neighbor as yourself. . So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.
If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
Equality & Social Programs: But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed,
because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.
Public Prayer & Displays of Faith: And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in
the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…
Strict Enforcement of Religious Laws: If any of you has a son or a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take
hold of it and lift it out? The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.
Individuality & Personal Spiritual Experience: Ye are the light of the world.

Luke 22:36 as interpreted by world renowned Biblical scholar William Barclay in his book "the Gospel of Luke" says -
Verses 33-38 with their talk of swords is a strange passage. But what they mean is this- Jesus was saying, "All the time so far you have had me with you. In a very short time you are going to be cast upon your own resources. What are you going to do about it? The danger in a very short time is not that you will possess nothing; but that you will have to fight for your very existence." This was not an incitement to armed force. It was simply a vivid eastern way of telling the disciples that their very lives were at stake. No one could say that the seriousness and danger of the situation, and his own liability to collapse were not presented to Peter.
Of course, and when Kerry tries to use his intelligiant answers people say they get confused and can't decifer it. Yes he does give like a couple billion reasons but even with the clear abortion reason he gave people have to decifer it. What's to decifer??
He may not know more than other ministers but "anyone else"????
This is like telling a computer professional that just because you studied computer in school and work on it every day doesnot mean you know more about its working than anyone else who uses it to surf the net.
I'm glad to hear they are supporting Kerry. I was referring more to the televangelists who go on these talking head shows and spew a bunch of hard right dogma that doesn't really reflect scripture IMO. I believe the Pastors in my church are for Kerry along with most of the laity as well. Thanks to you and Crownotangelgirl for your contributions to this discussion.
He wasn't around in the part of the Red Sea or the plagues. That was Moses and Aaron.
Bottomline here is: Christianity does not = a Bush vote
THINK.
One of my favorite Bushisms:
"As people do better, they start voting like Republicans... unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing."
-Karl Rove, as quoted in "Bush's Trillions," by Nicholas Lemann, The NewYorker, February 19 and 26, 2001
During much of the '90's the liberal way didn't work for us but we rode it out and duly elected a conservative.
There aren't enough "liberals" to elect Kerry.

Liberalism is out and I suspect the Democrat party will soon be likened to the Reform Party, splintered, leaderless, and unfocused.
The conservative way is still working for us. Thank you, George W. Bush.

:o)
I agree with you completely. However, I have found it to be mostly pointless to bring it up. My sister is a very devout born-again Christian who claims that God commands her to vote for Bush. I made the mistake of sharing the sojourners site with her and she totally discredited it as a "liberal" site, and I have since been deluged with literature (some of which I've researched and found to be completely false or inaccurate) from her confirming her opinions. On abortion, I pointed out that neither candidate is likely to outlaw it, but of course, that didn't matter either. Although I'm happy to hear her opinions, there is no way she will even begin to listen to mine... No research into any social or economic issues-just that God commands it. I find it very disheartening that so many people are just buying into campaign rhetoric from either side when in fact they very well may be voting against their very own beliefs, self interest or the greater interest of all.
And back to my question on gay marriage, why do we need an ammendment? And as I asked before, by the same logic, shouldn't we also outlaw divorce as they are both a sin according to the bible?
