Has anyone seen Fog of War? I am about to see it tomorrow night after a study group session. SO, I don't even know which way this one leans, left or right??? it should be interesting, I heard it was very historical, which is great.

any thoughts are quite welcome!

Fog of War is a really fantastic documentary. It's basically an interview with Robert McNamara who was Secretary of Defense during much of the Vietnam War (in fact, Vietnam is sometimes refered to as McNamara's War.) But it covers his whole life, and has a lot of very interesting info about WWII. The interviews are divided up into "lessons" McNamara has learned about warfare, although it's left for the viewer to decide if McNamara is older and wiser, or just deluded.

As for leaning right or left...it's really hard to say. Errol Morris, the filmmaker, definately skews to the left (he just shot a series of anti-Bush commercials for moveon.org ) but he's more interested in mining McNamara for his thoughts than taking a grand stand against war, and McNamara is still pretty hawkish. Some people thougth this film was going to be his apology for Vietnam, but it's not at all. Though parts are chilling to hear today in light of the War in Iraq. It's incrediby thought provoking, and the kind of movie you want to see again.

Here's Errol Morris's website: http://www.smashedupcar.com/em/home.html

and here's a really interesting article on this contraption Morris has devised so that people feel comfortable speaking directly into the camera, which is a Morris trademark and really makes his documentaries feel different than everyone elses. It's pretty cool.

Thanks. I'm surprised this movie hasn't been on the True Channel yet. *shrug* Has anybody heard? Can you rent it somewhere?
