On the right track, but doesn't hit hard enough. Obama's already been saying lately that "the American people aren't stupid," or "the American people are smarter than that," which is meant to INFER that it is the McCain campaign which is engaging in the sort of trivial and divisive politics which bring the discourse to that level. But Obama doesn't spell that out explicitly, and he needs to: every time he says something like the very well-said objections he raised here, he needs to make sure to more-forcefully and more-consistently (and more up-front) push the idea that it is indeed McCain and the GOP who are engaging in this, because they don't have much to show for the last eight years. He needs to get out front of this one, because it is a good angle, and tell people straightforwardly not just that he thinks they're smarter than that (because on its own, that can sound like patronizing, instead of the invitation to see who's manipulating the process which it is), and finish the logical reasoning chain: tell people flat-out that while HE (Obama) believes they are smarter than that, the McCain campaign obviously doesn't, because they're the ones, time and time again, engaging in this sort of gutterball politics. He needs to complete the thought and hammer it home, every time, over and over again.

Now in darkness, world stops turning
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling Begging
