Should Women Have The Choice To Abort In Cases Of Rape Or Incest?

  • No. I'm with Sarah Palin. Women should never have the choice to abort.
  • Yes. Women should have a choice regarding their pregnancy.

~I can see great ideas taking shape here. So let's give the father rights, but leave in exceptions for those whose life is in danger or have been victims of rape/incest. These two issues only make up 4% of all abortions, so that means we could save 3,840 babies a day. That would be a triumph!~

Well... first you are assuming that women would give up their rights over their bodies to someone else.

(((In fact.. Palin recently exercised the opposite when she found out that she was pregnant with a special needs child and did not exercise the right (which she is opposed to) to kill him.))

She did exercise her right and she chose to keep the baby. Because of Roe V. Wade, she had choices. Options. My pro-life friends believe what they believe, but don't brow beat their belief into my head. We know where we stand, but no holier than thou attitude or expectation or judgment that I should live as they do. Very respectful.

And McCain and Sarah complain that govt is too big, but they both think that Roe v. Wade, which if overturned will allow gov't to infringe on women's rights. They can't have it both ways. So which one is it? If Sarah is pro-woman then why is she so against letting a woman have control over her own reproductive decisions? If McCain is such a promoter of women, then who died and told him to limit women's rights?

A woman being forced to abort against her will is heartbreaking (I agree) but a woman being forced to continue gestation and give birth against her will is a triumph?

Absolutely not.

Most of us would involve a partner in such a decision; it really goes without saying who gets final say - it is implied, a given; exactly as it should be.

You are correct. I read that figure somewhere and it's a nationwide figure. Even so I can't see much changing in any state except maybe in Utah, and Utah is a small state, one could just drive across the border to a neighboring state. That's why this issue doesn't really concern me anymore.

I can see quite a few states making abortion difficult to obtain, if not impossible. I could see my state, Virginia, passing a law that made most abortions illegal. True, a woman could always cross the border into Maryland or DC, but other laws could be formed to make that difficult too.

I wonder what states who banned abortion would want to do about women who crossed state borders to have one? If a state declared that a fetus had legal rights from conception, would they consider it a crime to cross state lines to kill that fetus? There are states that already make it illegal to transport a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion. It wouldn't even be that hard to track. We already require all doctors to report outbreaks of certain diseases. Requiring a doctor to report any pregnancy would just be part of the list.

That's food for thought.

As I'm someone who has lost a family member to an illegal abortion, I don't want to go back to those days~~and I'm willing to fight toe and nail to keep it safe & legal.

All I have to say is please keep your religion/morals out of MY body....

The government has no right to tell anyone what they can or cannot do to THEIR body! I think it's really sad that this is even an issue anymore but unfortunately we have people like Sarah Palin and John McCain who choose to force-feed their beliefs on an entire nation.
