Should Politicians Ban Books That Are Decadent Or Unconventional?

  • No. People should decide for themselves what they want to read.
  • Yes. I'm with Sara Palin. Ban the books that endanger our minds.

I've always known that there were people in the US who wanted to burn every copy of the Book Of Mormon or remove

Your assumption that she wanted to censor/ban books is wrong. According to fact checker Palin never wanted to censor books:

"She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term."

Factcheck.org is correct. Palin never officially banned any books. But has factcheck looked at this:

WASILLA -- Back in 1996, when she first became mayor, Sarah Palin asked the city librarian if she would be all right with censoring library books should she be asked to do so.

According to news coverage at the time, the librarian said she would definitely not be all right with it. A few months later, the librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, got a letter from Palin telling her she was going to be fired. The censorship issue was not mentioned as a reason for the firing. The letter just said the new mayor felt Emmons didn’t fully support her and had to go. http://news.bostonherald.com/news/2008/view.bg?articleid=1117009&srvc=2008campaign&position=15

Let me know because I want to make sure I have the story right.

ABC News fact checked the Palin book banning controversy, and Palin doesn't look so great:

Yeah, it's pretty clear to me. Sarah Palin is a religious zealot.

It sounds to me that Palin was fishing during the city council meeting

If that's the case, that she was fired by Palin because she would not censor books.
