Am I the only one who is discouraged?

I know some may be sceptical, but I'm looking for reasonable debates on the important issues we're dealing with right now. In talking about the lipstick/pig comment, Obama said something today that I agree with. He said that this is a game that WE play. This is so true on BOTH sides. Each has had their moments of "phony outrage". Each side has said things that they knew might be taken a certain way. Can't we look at the politics going on right now on BOTH sides and be honest with ourselves? For instance, some on this board seem to attack the other side and defend their own candidate as if their politician of choice was perfect. Can't we, on BOTH sides, criticize and applaud the candidates when it's due? I'm not making this post as a Republican or a Democrat, but in watching this board over the past few days the mood has gotten hysterical on BOTH sides. Aren't you disheartened with ALL of the comments on this board? I truly want to discuss the issues and I want to better understand the views of those I disagree with. Is that impossible on this particular board?

In my opinion, for the most part, yes.

One thing I've noticed is that everyone on this board, again on both sides, sounds more like a pundit with an agenda to push, rather than an actual citizen of the country. I'd rather discuss issues with actual citizens than with political pundits. I want to better understand a Democrat's point of view, because there is so much I don't understand about their platform, but in the area I live there are very few Democrats. LOL They are hard to find. I guess too that I want to be heard by them. I want a REAL discussion.

((Each has had their moments of "phony outrage". ))

I don't agree with this statement. Every attack that the Mccain camp made against Barack was worthy of real outrage. Instead of talking about the issue, McCain has lied about Barack's comments and said he was talking about Sarah- when he clearly wasn't.

That's what you need to be discouraged about. McCain losing his mind to win an election. lol. He's lying (again), being dihonorable, and cheap. McCain is giving us reason after reason why he should not be trusted to run the country. He can't even run a clean campaign after promising that he would do so in the first place. That's outrageous!

Bring up an issue, then - start a thread on what is a reasonable tax structure. Or whether abortion should be legal. Or how long we ought to remain in Iraq. People here aren't paid pundits (or pundits of any kind, other than ad-hoc Internet wannabes).....but they ARE (most of them) people who care desperately what happens this fall, and that means they have very strong, and well-delineated feelings/thoughts on many issues. You want issues? Don't go in on the "lipstick/pig" stuff. Stick with what direction you think this country should go, and why - and who's best to get us there.

That's a debate I'd genuinely welcome, instead of the "OMG, no Obama dit-unt just say 'lipstick on a pig'."

Niteowl, your response is exactly what I'm talking about. I could list all of the phony outrage displayed by the Obama campaign, (because I heard plenty of it on the radio today), but THAT is exactly what I'm trying to get away from. I created this thread in the hopes that I could attract more serious discussion.

Ok, Corrigenda, you created a thread talking about earmarks, and that they only account for 3% of the budget. Don't you think that one of the things we need to do for our economy/deficit is to cut spending? At home when I need to pay off debt I cut spending in every wasteful area I find. Now 3% may not sound like much, but that is still Billions of dollars! Regardless if its Democrats or Republicans do you approve of wasteful earmark spending?

Why not answer in that thread? And why - if this is the way you feel - DIDN'T you ALREADY answer that thread?

Do you feel earmarks are always bad? Most of the federally supported major infrastructure projects are funded through earmarks. There is nothing wrong
