Am I the only one who is discouraged?

I know some may be sceptical, but I'm looking for reasonable debates on the important issues we're dealing with right now. In talking about the lipstick/pig comment, Obama said something today that I agree with. He said that this is a game that WE play. This is so true on BOTH sides. Each has had their moments of "phony outrage". Each side has said things that they knew might be taken a certain way. Can't we look at the politics going on right now on BOTH sides and be honest with ourselves? For instance, some on this board seem to attack the other side and defend their own candidate as if their politician of choice was perfect. Can't we, on BOTH sides, criticize and applaud the candidates when it's due? I'm not making this post as a Republican or a Democrat, but in watching this board over the past few days the mood has gotten hysterical on BOTH sides. Aren't you disheartened with ALL of the comments on this board? I truly want to discuss the issues and I want to better understand the views of those I disagree with. Is that impossible on this particular board?

Thank you slowroadrunner for the response. I don't believe that transparency is enough. I don't like earmarks. I think they're wasteful, and heavily abused by many. From what I understand McCain has never taken money for earmarks, which is bad for Arizona, but good for the country at large. I think its the principle behind earmarks that bothers me the most, not just the numbers. I think our government is wasteful with ALL spending.
