Judge Accused Palin of Form of 'Child Abuse'

Newsweek has been following up on the "Troopergate" story, and has identified court records in which a judge-- presiding over the divorce proceedings between Sarah Palin's sister, Molly Hacket, and former husband, and Alaska State Trooper, Todd Wooten--accused Palin of making improper public attacks against Wooten:

Court documents show that Judge Suddock was disturbed by the alleged attacks by Palin and her family members on Wooten's behavior and character. "Disparaging will not be tolerated--it is a form of child abuse," the judge told a settlement hearing in October of 2005, according to typed notes of the proceedings. The judge added: "Relatives cannot disparage either. If occurs the parent needs to set boundaries for their relatives."

Why "child abuse"? Because Wooten and Hacket were fighting over the custody rights of their children.

Palin's lawyers contend that Wooten made threatening remarks to members of her family, and note that a "court-ordered domestic violence protection order" had, at one time, been placed on Wooten. That order was dismissed, as Newsweek notes, "within months of being issued." All of this, by the way, took place before Palin was governor.

So, there was friction, you might say, between Wooten and Palin's family. Palin filed a barrage of complaints with Wooten's police union, which an official testifying in the divorce case testified were "not job related." In other words, Palin was out for vengeance. That's what the judge saw, and he ordered Palin and her family to stop "disparaging" Wooten, seeing as there were children involved, and a custody matter to decide.

But the real issue of "Troopergate" (is there no better name for this?), is that Palin did not heed the judge's order. In fact, once she became governor, she is accused of doing exactly the opposite. Here's Newsweek:

At the heart of the continuing "Troopergate" flap is evidence that despite Judge Suddock's warnings back in 2005 and 2006, Palin and her husband continued to make disparaging allegations against Wooten, even after she went to the statehouse. During her first security briefing with a representative of the state police, Palin and Todd were both asked whether they knew of any potential threats against them, according to a depositions taken from one of Palin's top aides following her election in Nov. 2006. Both said the only real threat they were aware of was posed by Wooten.

The Palins later raised allegations about Wooten with public safety chief Monegan, according to an account Monegan gave to the Washington Post.

And when Monegan failed to take action against Wooten, he was fired. So says Monegan, anyway.

Defenders of Palin's are quick to point out that Wooten was a bad apple. Certainly, that seems to be true, especially concerning Wooten's past. But where in our code of justice does it say that because you screw up your marriage, you aren't entitled to keep your job? Remember, Wooten has been convicted of no crime, even though, to my mind, he very well could have been. But we are a society of laws. And it's clear that family matters weighed heavily in this case. Monegan's firing, furthermore, raises serious questions of abuse of power.

So, you are OK with someone using their power to make things happen if the law doesn't rule their way?

And this is behavior you are comfortable with your President exhibiting?

((((let's be aware that this man tased his son and beat up his wife. )))

Understood. Sarah can't play slash and burn politics in America. She STILL has to go through the proper channels. Or she breaks the law and abuses her power. Too bad she didn't have Karl with her in the beginning or she could have wielded the media like a bat against her ex BIL. lol.

(((That consitution thingy doesn't stop at the 2nd amendment. ))

And thank goodness it doesn't. People like Sarah would go unchecked and things. like the gov't mess in the Interior Dept, happen and good people's lives are ruined. That commish seemed really loyal to Sarah.

These things don't just happen, you know. All it takes is one top position to be really wrong and boom. All chaos breaks loose. Just like in Sarah's gov't. Taxpayers money used to investigate her. If she had been above reproach, there wouldn't be a troopergate.
