What can a candidate do to earn your vote?

The election is just around the corner. While some have already made up their minds, what do you traditionally look for in a candidate? Whether at the national or local level, what can a candidate do to earn your vote?

As a non American watching the debate I felt that McCain was condecending to Obama and also as far as Iraq is concerned Obama is right on. Afghanistan is the biggest threat to both our countries. Also as a Canadian whose troops are dying in Afghanistan it would be nice when your candidates are discussing allies they would remember to mention Canada as we are the country fighting in the most dangerous part of Afghanistan!! As far as Sarah Pallin is concerned she is not up for the job, remember she could be President and if she knows very little about countries outside of the U.S.A she will certainly not inspire the confidence of other nations

Show me he cares for this country, that he's going to not be dumb like bush, and make bad choices, which in turns effect us all. He must know how to be smart, and keep this economy's money value at top

I cannot imagine anything as I have decided not to vote this time at all although I am a Democrat; I campaigned for Hillary.

I know our country will be safe, noone will attack us if he is in charge, that is my main concern this election year.
