Democrats on Capitol Hill fear Obama fallout

Democratic jitters about the US presidential race have spread to Capitol Hill, where some members of Congress are worried that Barack Obama’s faltering campaign could hurt their chances of re-election.

Party leaders have been hoping to strengthen Democratic control of the House and Senate in November, but John McCain’s jump in the polls has stoked fears of a Republican resurgence.

A Democratic fundraiser for Congressional candidates said some planned to distance themselves from Mr Obama and not attack Mr McCain.

“If people are voting for McCain it could help Republicans all the way down the ticket, even in a year when the Democrats should be sweeping all before us,” said the fundraiser, a former Hillary Clinton supporter.

“There is a growing sense of doom among Democrats I have spoken to . . . People are going crazy, telling the campaign ‘you’ve got to do something’.”

Concern was greatest among first-term representatives who won seats in traditionally Republican districts in the landslide of 2006. “Several of them face a real fight to hold on to those seats,” the fundraiser said.

Tony Podesta, a senior Democratic lobbyist, said members of Congress were “a little nervous” after Mr McCain shook up the race with his choice of Sarah Palin as running mate and intensified attacks on Mr Obama.

“Republicans have been on the offensive for the past two weeks . . . You don’t win elections on the defensive.”

The campaign manager for a first-term Democratic congressman from a blue-collar district in the north-east rejected suggestions that Mr Obama had become a liability. He said his candidate would reach out to Republicans and avoid attacks on Mr McCain.

Amen to that!!!!!!

Come on Rapture....

Don't wanna take to Revelations to much (wrong board for that) but I've always suspected that in order for certain things to occur in revelations, USA would have to lose its status of superpower.......well that is well on its way isn't it?

*** I'm trying to figure out what people are expecting senators to do in two years?

I guess it depends on the Senator, but in Obama’s case not very much at all. His two years pretty much amounted to running for President, and before that he had a particularly undistinguished career in the State Senate and before that, an undistinguished career as a community organizer.

*** 2 years to clean up the mess Bush made? The same group that have bills that are ridiculous in length and difficult to understand the fine print. It took 6 years for Bush to make the mess.

You’d have to be specific as to what “mess” you feel bush made…but generally speaking a freshman Senator doesn’t have the power or authority to accomplish much on his own, let alone countermand the President.

*** I wish all sides will be realistic and "honest".

So would we. It’s pretty clear that, while Obama is a good scripted speaker, he’s far too inexperienced to be President, and he’s demonstrated that at every turn, being wrong on every issue and at least three days behind McCain on the curve. It’s even more appalling when they attack Palin as “too inexperienced” and “a mother,”…only highlighting Obama’s inexperience by comparison.

*** The campaign year is getting to be a pain to watch. And I just flip the TV off now. If the repubs get any more negative, I will vomit.

The “Repubs?” I don’t know what you’ve been watching, but so much for a “fair,” unbiased point of view.

*** Repubs have their "golden ticket" and are doing a great job at the "fear" tactic...again. Looks like a repeat of 1980-1992.

Right…”fear”…Iran building a nuclear weapons program, Russia flexing it’s muscles invading it’s neighbors, terrorist threats, Israel with a twitchy trigger finger…”fear,” indeed, than an inexperienced fop could be in the Oval during these dangerous times.

*** People can complain about Bill Clinton all the want but he didn't do a horrible job in offices like the 2 Bushes.

Bosnia… Somalia… Haiti… Kosovo… Iraq… WTT Bombing… OBL failures …higher taxes… troopergate… travelgate… Whitewater… Lewinsky… Pauls Jones… Jennifer Flowers…Impeachment… and the list goes on and on. It’s a good thing he didn’t do a “horrible job” in office.

*** Dubya basically killed any chances of his baby brother (my former Gov) ever running........oh wait.....as long as he is a Christian, instills nothing but fear in Americans - then he is a shoe in. LOL.

Oh, you mean a man with morals and values who will stand up to our enemies rather than appease them? LOL!

*** Truly, Whoever wins will be facing HillBill in 2012. LOL. I feel sorry for whomever will get in office. Because they have a mess to clean up. A mess that will take at least 6+ years to clean up.

Vote McCain/Palin.

I'm sure the cowardice and appeasement of Obama will bring you safety if not comfort...as a Russian state. LOL! But hey, at lest there will be no war. ; ) Liberals seem to have a lot of French blood coursing through their veins. LOL!

I want NOTHING to do with conservatives who will resort to calling Obama names like Obamamessiah and all the other names he has been called. I want nothing to do with people who would listen and agree with the likes of these Conservative "shock jocks" this is truly despicable.

Biden's choice was rather inexplicable. . .it would seem he is counter-Obama rhetoric in every respect:
