Wow, that is really sad.

All I can figure out is that McCain must think that because HE survived for years as a POW, came home and had no trouble building a successful career as a politician, EVERY vet should be able to to the same, without gov't help. Isn't that what's expected of a macho, military man?

It's sort of like the Republican belief: "As long as I am a self-made man, so can every other American be one"; anyone who is unsuccessful is lazy, and the government has no business helping him. Let him WORK, just like I did.

What the Republicans will not admit is that those born in our inner cities do NOT have the connections they do, or the same opportunities. And our vets who were raised in the inner cities do not have the same opportunites as McCain or other children born into military dynasties.

The 30% of enlistees who did not finish high school and come home after a tour of duty will need our government's help for decades. In the long run, this war will be far more expensive than it now appears to be.

I know Obama will not turn his back on them.

From McCain's voting record, one has to believe that McCain won't flinch when he again sends the message "Sorry, we can't help you; we've got to spend our money on our current, active military operations all over the world."
