Actually if Bush had concentrated the troops in Afghanistan in the first place instead of a diversion into Iraq, we would have Bin Laden by now and we would not be facing these problems now.

Hey, I'll agree with you on the national interest thing.
*** Hey, I'll agree with you on the national interest thing. Now as far as peace and security, I don't think overthrowing a government is either but that is only an opinion. The facts are several democratic governments were overthrown by our government because it was not in their economic interest.
Our national interest has a pretty wide berth. I'm sure that there are economic issues at play, but national security was probably a more significant factor than you're acknowledging.

Let's take the Sept. 11th event in Chile, Allende was never a threat to the US except economically.
"I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its people." - Henry Kissinger
A friend of our enemy could turn out to be our enemy. We figured we had enough enemies so we decided to remove a growing one. Again, national security.

*** I wonder how people would feel if a foreign nation didn't like who we elected democratically and toppled our government.
They could try…but size has it’s advantages. In fact, I’d submit that it probably has been tried many times in the past and might have had an influence on our politics.
*** The new government comes in under a brutal dictatorship with a dictator that kills and tortures people who stand for any kind of human rights but is pretty decent about privatizing resources and making money off of other rich nations who in turn make lots of money from them.
Well, that’s one take…another might be that we saw Allende as a growing threat and decided to take action to support his removal. Unfortunately, as in the case with Saddam Hussein, we don’t have a crystal ball to see into the future.

*** So, our new friend is a brutal dictator?
Isn’t 20/20 hindsight wonderful?
*** Oh, yeah he opens up his financial assets for our government. Yes, I guess he is a true friend.
Apparently, they thought he was a better choice than a communist. That was kinda big in those days.

Sure and that is why our government hid information from the public eyes for many years.
"Not to worry, SuperObama will find him even if he has to go into Bin Laden’s evil lair himself."
I believe comments like this one as well as your comment that the trillions Bush is blowing on the Iraq war are "very effective" are not having the effect you think they are.
