Awesome Palin Ad

Do NOT miss this ad (but read the following first, pretty please, for my take):
Over the past thirty years, the scorched-earth tactics which the GOP has practiced, which began when Lee Atwater conducted the infamous "jumper cables" push-polling against congressional candidate Tom Turnipseed, through to the Jesse Helms "hands" spot, to Willie Horton ads, and right up to today, have rendered an already-contentious and base process - electing a President (and congresspeople and senators, too) such a debased and vicious arena, where mean-spirited trivia and dog-whistle innuendo about race and gender and religion and sexuality and other gut-level issues are more rampant - and more successful - than sober (or even impassioned) debates about actual issues which will affect most people, that it's barely better than cockfighting, in terms of nobility.
And, for quite some time now, I have been of the opinion that Democrats - and currently, this means Obama - had better start recognizing the tenor of the times and the lay of the land, if they wish to win. As another blogger said, in a post I linked to in another thread:
And so, in the spirit of that mindset, I offer simply awesome ad. It is low, despicable and every word of it is true. But the visual images add so much more. It says nothing whatsoever about Palin's positions on foreign policy or the economy, racism or the environment. It simply goes straight for the all-important (to many voters) "gut," bypassing all that pansy-a$$ crap. It says, in coded language, that Palin is a sadistic monster who should never, ever be let anywhere near the coffers and levers of power of our nation. It will give many people pause, in the way that no amount of record-correcting about all her lies and half-truths will ever do. It simply rocks, in as sleazy and straight-across-the-chops a manner as anything I've seen this season. I wish I had a billion dollars, so I could give two or three million of it to get this ad running EVERYWHERE.

Obama wants to change politics, but ask anyone who has ever tried to subvert a system: you gotta do it from the inside. And if you cringe at the idea of Obama stepping into the muck and mire of post-Atwater poltics, then ask yourself: will he get more done by keeping his shoes clean and losing?
The truly aggravating thing is watching opportunity after opportunity pass by the Obama campaign. Here's some advice to them: you are not living in subtle times. You are living in an era in our nation where people only react if you use a mallet, not a stiletto, to get your point across. The choice of Sarah Palin as a running mate was a brilliant read of the national zeitgeist. She's like the winner of America's Next Top Model, not a qualified politician, and as such, idiot America thinks they relate.....
In other words, Obama campaign, as so many others have advised, go on offense, and that means you have to offend.
