Palin like Bush: secrecy, cronyism

The New York Times, cowed by the right for so long, is finally doing some half way decent reporting on the reality of Palin's rule in Alaska. Palin is hiding everything she can, using personal email accounts to avoid public disclosure, appointing totally unqualified hacks who make former Katrina FEMA Head Michael Brown look like an expert for his heckuva job. What a surprise from the person who lied about being against the bridge to nowhere and earmarks in general, whose campaign lied about her seeing our troops in Iraq, and who says she knows about Russia because Alaska is near Siberia.

Oops! Palin Didn't Visit Iraq After All

(Newser) – Contrary to earlier claims by campaign aides, Sarah Palin has never visited Iraq, a spokesman has conceded. The Alaska governor visited state troops in Kuwait and Germany and also stopped in Ireland last year. But she did not cross the Kuwait border into Iraq as previously claimed—and Ireland was just a refueling stop, aides have told the Boston Globe.

Representatives changed their version of events after the Globe raised questions about Palin's travel. Palin has come under criticism for her lack of international experience. Spokesmen recently revealed that Palin has taken family vacations in Canada and Mexico.

Take 2. 8 years was TOO MUCH!

Sarah Palin's powerful "First Dude"

Todd Palin has exerted unusual influence on his wife's Alaska government. In Washington, their methods would do Bush and Cheney proud.

In Sarah Palin's political profile and governing methods, critics see a direct political heir of George W. Bush. And Todd Palin's behind-the-scenes strength is one way in which Palin's Juneau administration appears to mirror that of Bush and Cheney -- with its proclivity for secrecy and cronyism.

Sarah Palin has used a private e-mail address on most of the e-mails her husband was copied on, and reportedly was advised by aides that such nonofficial communications could be protected from potential subpoena. Legislators and political insiders in Alaska say a small circle of trusted Palin aides keep most decisions and deliberations close to the vest, with Todd Palin among them.

These maneuverings may sound quite familiar, if you recall Bush staffers using private Republican National Committee e-mails instead of whitehouse.gov accounts, or the faith George Bush has put in trusted advisors to work closely with him in private, even when they don't seem up to the job.

It must be a Republican party trait.
