What if things were reversed?

This is my first time posting on this board.  It seems like there are alot of very well-informed and passionate people here!  I look forward to hearing all your thoughts.

This was sent to me by a friend, and another ivillage friend suggested I share it here.  It certainly makes you think.

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class? What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said "I do" to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard? What if Obama were a member of the "Keating 5"? What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

*** I'm done. I will not participate in a conversation that uses that lie, lie, lie, propaganda, propaganda, propaganda.

And yet your post was filled with lies and propaganda. How very odd.

*** I'm not a liar, and you haven't shared any facts.

I specifically pointed out the lies and distortions. I also shared many facts...you just didn't recognize them.

i think this concept is an interesting one and would have been an appropriate mind test...if it had been written with less blatant partisanship.

yes, one difference between the two candidates is race.

Doc, I really used to think McCain was an okay guy, and he may still be.

{{{"The only news I can find that has a liberal bent that I can appreciate is on National Public Radio."}}}

So, you don't watch MSNBC? CBS? NBC?

Obviously if things were reversed the right wing would be in an uproar. They seem to be able to dish it out but are unable to 'take it' as it were. It is ok to call Michelle Obama, Obama's 'baby mama' - which implies they are not married but just 'shacking up'.
It is ok to sell Obama Waffles with an ethnic stereotyped cartoonish face of Obama in a Muslim headress, but heaven forbid Obama use a commonly used reference to a pig and lipstick and the world is in an uproar over him possibly calling McCain's running mate a pig.

The double standard is really quite amazing.

The whole thing got me to wondering - how can McCain say he believes that Obama wasn't talking about Palin with the pig comment but still stand by his ad? It doesn't make sense to me - if he knew Obama wasn't talking about Palin then isn't his ad a lie? And if his ad is a lie doesn't that make him a liar? And if he is a liar then what happened to the 'straight talk' reputation? So this endless spiral makes me wonder what happened to the maverick who was going to change things? Isn't this just the same old dirty politics?

well... actually... obama was raised by his white mother and his white grandmother. on food stamps. his black father abandoned his family. to say that he supported a racist organization under a racist leader is short-sighted.

do you really think barack knowingly supported someone who was racist against white people, against people like barack's mother and barack's grandmother, against half of himself? do you really think he would spit in the face of his mother and his grandmother and support the views of black supremacist?

I live in Canada but I have been watching the election.. I dont trust McCain and I feel that if he was elected that the States would have a worse run then the last 8 years with Bush..if a politicon was involved with a scandle involving money (ie: the keating 5) how can he be trusted with running a COUNTRY...and also he is well known for not following advice. I can just see it now. If we thought that Bush was doing a less then steller job..what can we expect from a man with undertones of corrption and greed ( come on..the guy doesnt even know how many HOMES he has...sheesh)
