What if things were reversed?

This is my first time posting on this board. It seems like there are alot of very well-informed and passionate people here! I look forward to hearing all your thoughts.
This was sent to me by a friend, and another ivillage friend suggested I share it here. It certainly makes you think.
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class? What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said "I do" to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard? What if Obama were a member of the "Keating 5"? What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Per the U.S Department of Labor, Bureau of labor statistics:
The unemployment average for GWB's first term was 5.5%---
The unemployment rate in December 2000 (last Clinton month) was 3.9%---
While its not triple (forgive my overamplification of a minor problem), it is a 1.6% difference----

Do you think our economy is doing well?
Now Parris, this is a complex issue.

McCain fans are in denial. This is the worst economy we've had since the great depression. Why can't McCain supporters admit that? Is it because admitting it will "imply" that once we had a republican president and congress simiultaneously in office, the economy took a bad tumble? Thats the problem with most republicans- you vote republican without assessing whats at stake. I can't believe you would even consider Obama being happy about the state of our economy- he is simply doing his job in campaigning- he's bringing up a very important issue to most Americans and underlining how crappy it is. So now he can't even do that huh? I think I see McCain on the news just as much as Obama "cheerleading" about the state of our economy.
I'm sorry you don't think 5 million more people losing their jobs is significant. I don't think McCain thinks its significant either.
It sure seems like our economy has tripled in its deterioration though.
BTW, I am a democrat but made the mistake of voting for GWB in 2000. You know what they say though, "fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you"... and well fool me a third time and I'm just an idiot.
