McCain's Earmark Lie: Palin actually grubs $1 mil/day as Gov. by Kagro X

Mon Sep 15, 2008 at 03:00:11 PM PDT

The Wall Street Journal:

Last week, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain said his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, hadn't sought earmarks or special-interest spending from Congress, presenting her as a fiscal conservative. But state records show Gov. Palin has asked U.S. taxpayers to fund $453 million in specific Alaska projects over the past two years.

It's been 652 days since Earmark Queen Sarah Palin took office as Governor of Alaska.

In that time, she's hustled for $453,000,000 in federal lipstick pork.

That's $694,785.28 a day. Six hundred ninetey-four thousand, seven hundred and eight five dollars and twenty-eight cents. Every day. Even Sundays!

Palin was grubbing six hundred ninetey-four thousand, seven hundred and eight five dollars and twenty-eight cents out of the federal trough on the very day when John McCain looked America in the eye and said she was taking zero.

And she took it again today, too.

And she took it on every one of the 312 nights she spent at home and billed the Alaskan taxpayers for it.

So why say it's a million dollars a day? Well, first, let me show you what Slick Sarah Palin is telling people:

On the campaign trail, Gov. Palin has repeatedly attacked Sen. Obama on earmarks. "Our opponent has requested nearly one billion dollars in earmarks in three years. That's about a million for every working day," she said at a rally in Albuquerque, N.M.

Ohhhh, this feels like it's going to get embarrassing in a second....

And, behold! Look what "The Math" says!

It is difficult to compare Sen. Obama's earmark record with Gov. Palin's -- their states differ in size, for instance, and the two candidates play different roles in the process. But using the same calculation that the McCain campaign uses, the total amount of earmarked dollars divided by the number of working days while each held office (assuming a five-day workweek, every week, for both), Gov. Palin sought $980,000 per workday, compared with roughly $893,000 for Sen. Obama.

Not only is Palin taking much more, but oh my word if the million dollar figure doesn't actually fit her sooooo much better than the person she's trying to use it against! What a surprise!

So that's almost a million dollars a day, whether she showed up at the office or not. A million bucks, plus $60 in her pocket for defrosting one of her own mooseburgers for lunch.

And really, Palin must be asking herself, why not chisel the Alaska state government a little bit? After all:

The state's earmark requests stand out in part because its state government is among the wealthiest in the U.S. Flush with oil and gas royalties, it doesn't impose income or sales taxes. In fact, money flows the other way: Every man, woman and child this year got a check for $3,200.

Gosh, but they're such rugged individualists up there! They're gonna launch themselves into orbit with those bootstraps, don'tcha know?

A million dollars a day. From you and me. Plus $3,200 in the bank for each one of 'em. And $60 in Sarah's pocket for every lunch at home. (Like every working mom, of course!)

It's the new fiscal responsibility, in John McCain's seven house-owning, $5 million middle class living world!

I think he went to the US Naval Academy and came out a commissioned officer. Yes, he does collect his Social Security check, and he receives a tax-exempt $58K veterans disability pension.

*** Boy, have you swallowed the RNC propaganda hook, line and sinker!!

Reality is like that.

Reality makes you swallow RNC propaganda hook, line and sinker? Gosh, I thought GoOPers were always telling us that reality has a notorious liberal bias, LOL.

I posted an article detailing what a “community organizer” really is…go back and dig it up. It ain’t someone who works in soup kitchens and helps poor children…it’s a cut-throat “politician” working at the grass-roots level…and after three years, Obama was a failure…so naturally he went into politics.

Oy - you pack more incorrectness-per-sentence than any poster I've ever seen! "Community organizer" jobs vary WIDELY; so much so that it's a little problematic to lump them all together under anything beyond a fairly broad description. Didja have any evidence to support your assertion that "Obama was a failure" by the standards of community organizing? And no, saying that he left and went to law school is not indicative of failure; most people change jobs - even radical career changes - on average three times over the course of their working lives.

But beating up on a girl is ok with you....

I love - LOVE - that you actually said that! Because it's quite obviously a campaign tactic of McCain's right now: you can't criticize Sarah Palin - on ANYTHING - because "she's a girl, and didn't your mother ever teach you not to hit girls?" It institutionalizes in their campaign (and of course, their worldview) the very sexism it rails hypocritically in public against. Guess what, folks: this is politics, not pinochle. John Edwards gets absolutely GRILLED for $400 haircuts - STILL. Heck, had it not been for the affair, that would STILL be the dominant right-wing take on Edwards. Hillary Clinton's cleavage was obsessively discussed. People "innocently wonder" (eye roll) whether Joe Biden's French cuffs will make him seem "inaccessible" to working-class voters. But talk about Palin's appearance in any way? Sexism!! Heck, even if you DON'T talk about Palin's appearance, we'll take a quote of you using an old political cliché that WE'VE used many times, and twist it around to state that you WERE talking about Palin - and her appearance....SEXISM! And it's simply bullroar, of course....but that's how the GOP wins elections: weapons of mass distraction. Financial system entering what the Wall Street Journal itself called "the worst financial crisis since the 1930s" just yesterday? Whip out some lipstick talk! Embassy in Yemen get bombed, thus rendering the whole "we haven't been attacked since 9/11" canard even more ridiculously false than it already was? Better trot out some lines about how criticizing Palin's lack of experience as a mayor of a town of 6,000 is really thinly disguised SEXISM!!

Nice propaganda, but he was a community organizer with no accomplishments for three years, a state Senator with no accomplishments for eight years and a US Senator for 143 days with no accomplishments.

You, of course, have links which prove all this....a clear and convincing account of Obama's record in all three areas, showing "no accomplishments."

*** Palin was mayor of a one horse town, and only had power over the library! Every other department was out of her control. Her only action, was to try to get the librarian fired for not removing books SHE didn't approve of!!

Um…lies.

Which, of course, you'll provide proof of by linking to stories which show the deep and consistent record of positive accomplishments of Sarah Palin as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

a certain number of spots on the Harvard Law Review are allocated as part of “Affirmative Action.” Hmmm…I wonder how many blacks there were on the law review at the time Barry was there?

You know, I have no IDEA whether this is true or not (though, given your overall track record, I certainly have my thoughts on the matter, LOL). I just haven't made discovering the ins and outs of the Harvard Law review's governing charter a top priority of mine. But let's go ahead and say this claim ISN'T complete horse manure: I would be....uh....let's just say "mighty surprised," LOL, if the CHAIR position - the LEADER, and EDITOR - of the Harvard Law Review was a position which was thusly apportioned. Affirmative action might help get someone in the door of a company or organization. It sure won't get them appointed CEO by the board, or elected leader by the membership.

Overall, though - nice load of bullroar, there: I'd give it a B+, on a curve against your other efforts at misdirection and falsehood.

Obama doesn't have a record of "change"...no record of "crossing the aisle"...nothing but "by the book" old style tax and spend Democrat same old, same old.

I'm just curious....do you EVER read anything that isn't spoon-fed to you by the mighty Wingnut Wurlitzer? I mean, do facts like this one just never even make it ONTO your radar screen? Or are you just willfully choosing to ignore them even when you DO know about them, because they don't fit in with your stale and inaccurate narrative?

Press Release of Senator Lugar
Obama, Lugar Secure Funding for Implementation of Nonproliferation Law

$48 million funding increase to be used to destroy conventional weapons stockpiles, intercept weapons of mass destruction and respond to proliferation emergencies

*** Your sarcastic non-answers are noted.

Sorry, I tend to get sarcastic when dealing with such ill-informed and gross partisanship. As for they're being non-answers, I addressed each point you raised so you must have posed non-questions.

*** I guess when you don't like hearing the truth, it's convenient to use RNC lies and personal attacks.

If there was truth in your allegations, I must have missed it. Can you dig up that itsy-bitsy kernel and post it again?

*** Poor Palin, she's being picked. LOL,

Hmmm...I recall a different attitude when it was poor Barry who was getting the short end of the stick. It's sad that partisanship trumps fairness.

*** contrary to what you say, when it comes to looks, Obama has been picked on much more than she has. Perhaps you have missed all the distorted pictures of Obama? The latest being a picture of him on a pancake mix box, looking much like Aunt Jemima (?) and racist comments on the box. Yes, they have attacked Obama on his parenting, and everything else they can think of. Those cretins don't even care what the issues are, they only care about Swiftboating Obama.

You can't "swiftboar" Obama with a mocking picture...you have to attack him on the issues. As far as the funny pics are concerned, I haven't seen them or heard of them appearing on legitimate sites or news sources.

*** BTW: Rev. Wright did not preach every Sunday. He also is of an age, when he remember how members of his race, including himself, were treated by American citizens and our government. I'm younger than him, but I grew up in the south, and I remember a lot also. Even as a child, I saw the unfairness in how they were treated. I don't know how well, or if you know the history of how blacks were treated in the military. We should all be ashamed of the experiments that were unknowingly done on the men! At least Rev. Wright has reasons to resent our government. He obviously has carried it to the extreme, which Obama has said himself. Plenty of Caucasians have come up with wild reasons for 9/11. Rev. Wright is not alone in having wild reasons, by any means.

I don't care if Rev. Wright is a wacko-America-hating-racist. I care that a man who wants to be my President adopted this nutcase as his personal mentor and embraces this ideology personally...and subjects his family to it. It says a LOT about him.

<<< *** They don't mind having a VP who participated in the Secessionist organization herself.

<<< Lie.

*** No it is not a lie. Go to youtube, as there are videos, showing her giving the opening welcome to their convention. Plain as day. Even you can't refute the videos!

I've seen pictures of Obama in "muslim" attire...so I guess it's true that he's a Muslim.

was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She’s been registered as a Republican since May 1982
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html

*** Obama is so much smarter, and so much more prepared and experienced than Palin!!

No, he's not...and he's demonstrated poor judgment on every issues that's come up in the campaign.

*** Yes, he does have executive experience.

Obama has never run anything or accomplished anything of any note.

*** Palin was mayor in name only. Some experience.

Palin ran the town of Wasilla...and did such a good job that they re-elected her. Then they elected her governor...and now she's had such an impressive record of success that she's been tapped for the VP of the US.

*** As for the budget as governor, from what I've read, the only responsible budgetary actions were done by Alaska's congress.

Then you've got to stop reading left-wing tripe and try reading something with facts in it. LOL!

*** True, she did give away the money she received from our taxes, to citizens of Alaska. That's one way to get votes, and to keep people quiet. LOL,

Right...money that the US Congress voted to send to Alaska (including Obama and Biden) was spend by Gov. Palin on Alaska infrastructure. Duh.

*** what foreign experience does she have?! Oh, that's right, NONE!

Which is slightly more than Obama has. Like Hillary said...all Obama has is a speech he gave in 2002...and he was even forced to do that. Obama is an empty suit with a hollow slogan.

*** You have offered so many lies in that post, it's absurd. Not one thing you posted had any truth in it.

You’d be right if it weren’t for all of the facts contained in the post. ; ) But it’s sweet that you’ve taken the time to refute them with “because I say so.”

*** Reality?! You are as clueless as racists are.

Ooh…TOS violation. LOL!

*** Everything you called lies, is well documented as the truth by legitimate sources.

And yet you can’t produce any of those “legitimate” sources here? How strange. Well, no, not really strange…they’re really just lies, smears and propaganda that the clueless masses on the left lap up like ice cream.

*** I'm through playing your game.

And yet here you are…roll the dice or go home.

*** Anything you are calling lies, you can Google and find all the links you could want.

I’m sure I can find lies and smears all over the internet…but what I’m interested in are facts.

*** Picking up a newspaper once in a while, will give you the pictures without having to Google for them. I don't intend to waste any more time debunking the lies and racist comments.

I expect that’s because you CAN’T debunk them…which is why we’re seeing such a staggering LACK of links contained in your post proving how wrong I am.

*** Enjoy your hatred, based on nothing.

I’m not a liberal, I don’t have hatred…I have distain for an elitist neophyte with a cheap slogan instead of a clue. He’s been wrong on every single issue…and the clueless left keeps supporting him. He wasn’t even right on the war, he was told he’d “better oppose it” by Bettylu Saltzman. He was wrong on the Surge. He was wrong on Iran. He was wrong on Georgia and his silence is wrong on the economic crisis. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

*** If McCain gets elected, you'll get what you deserve, unfortunately the rest of us will suffer too.

Darn right…a candidate with judgment who knows how to lead and defend this country. Go McCain!

*** BTW: being pro-choice is NOT the only reason NOW, and other women oppose Palin.

That’s their big issue…unless you want to tell me that NOW is against working mothers?

*** What really galls me is, the pro-lifers don't give a hoot what happens to that baby once it's born!

Um…isn’t that the responsibility of the parents? Nahwho’d ever believe that?

*** Let it go into a home where it isn't wanted, so it can be abused; where it can't get decent health care;

If you libs know about homes like this, why aren’t you doing anything about them? You run Congress…or is it that once libs have lost their opportunity to abort the children they just don’t care?

*** where if it was up to the republicans, there wouldn't be any social programs to help that mother and baby!

And yet there are…supported by conservatives.

*** Talk about hypocrites, you can't be more hypocritical than that!!

Sure you can…you can say, if I can’t kill it, then don’t talk to me about taking responsibility for it.
