Does John McCain really believe that our economy is fundamentally sound? Is this guy out of his freakin’ mind? He is either too old or too stupid to be president. Umployment is down. Wages are down. The price of everything is up. The deficit is up. The national debt is up. Yeah, sounds like the economy is in great shape, John. Perhaps it is time for another tax break for those who make over $250,000 a year. We could use some of that Reagan trickledown voodoo economics about now.
Perhaps when McCain is elected, his new treasury secretary Phil Gramm will straighten all of us whiners out?
The guys seem to be clueless about the economy.

I heard on one of the financial shows, I believe it was Larry Kudlow, saying that policies were put in place to force institutions to make these loans to unqualified people that they didn't want to make. The alternative to not making the loans was to not make any loans, which would put them out of business.

So, the government

The economy is not fundamentally sound. And be sure to note which party was in the White House when the national debt rose.

And let me ask you this: How did the Republicans think they were going to pay for the war without extra

Wow thank you for explaining it so well - I kind of knew the basic facts but didn't have enough details to argue the point. You post really delineates why I am so afraid of how this election will turn out. I am a teacher in a relatively poor area, with a down turn in the economy I could end up unemployed - we are already suffering budget cuts due to unemployment in the area. This is complicated by rising fuel costs for heating buildings and busing students. If I am having a hard time, as a college educated professional, how do hourly employees make it at all?

Mc Cain co sponsered a bill in 2005 that very well might have prevented the current housing disaster and its effect on the economy:

It appears that the bill never got out of committee.
