McCain on banking and health

OK, a correspondent directs me to John McCain’s article, Better Health Care at Lower Cost for Every American, in the Sept./Oct. issue of Contingencies, the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries. You might want to be seated before reading this.

Here’s what McCain has to say about the wonders of market-based health reform:

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

So McCain, who now poses as the scourge of Wall Street, was praising financial deregulation like 10 seconds ago — and promising that if we marketize health care, it will perform as well as the financial industry!>>>

The TOLEDO BLADE is not a conservative paper! It is just a paper that has been in existence for a hundred and seventy years! Please give me a break!

From their online page:

Toledo Blade Newspaper
The Toledo Blade newspaper has been around for over 170 years. The Blade Newspaper is the older than the City of Toledo itself. In the City of Toledo, the Toledo Blade is the only daily newspaper. The Toledo Blade covers about 14 counties in northwest Ohio and parts of southeatern Michigan. The Toledo Blade is "One of America's Great Newspapers." The current owners of the Toledo Blade are the Block Family. The bought the Toledo Blade from the Locke family in the mid 1920s.

Mr. Kelly provided no links to his filibuster comment, and I can't find any anywhere - and neither can you.

Did you notice that I said "You can't print false facts in a mainstream newspaper WITHOUT REPERCUSSIONS?" (Um, who was it again that has trouble with reading comprehension?) Each of the lies printed in main stream papers about Palin were retracted. We'll see if Jack Kelly has to retract anything. MY guess is no.

>>>"I'm wondering if people realize this. If McCain/Palin win the election, and McCain dies in office, Nancy Pelosi will become vice President."

You are incorrect, and I really am disappointed that so many people really don't know how our country works. No personal offense meant, but it's OURS, let's get in the know, especially before giving false information to people who might just take it as fact.

25th Amendment: Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

When the president dies, and the VP becomes president, there is suddenly a vacancy in the VP seat. I'm sure it's obvious why the VP has the right to make the appointment, when you consider sort of mess we'd be in with a Palin/Pelosi team.

I'm not at all saying deliberately or maliciously misleading people, but there really is a need to be reading and learning how our country works. Because I don't see how one can properly make an educated choice on election day without a firm grasp on how it all works.

"No blocking occurred as Democrats didn't have that opportunity."

You know, it occurred to me that lying that others are responsible for something when they are not is pretty serious. It's even more serious when the accuser in fact turns out to be the one at fault.

How come the Republican politicians are able to keep fobbing off accountability for doing this? It's not like their great performance is distracting us. They are miserable failures to boot. What is going on?

It is not unusual for a paper to quote someone. If you can only find one instance where the quote they chose didn't make you happy, I think that says a lot. The paper has been around for 170 years.
