McCain on banking and health

OK, a correspondent directs me to John McCain’s article, Better Health Care at Lower Cost for Every American, in the Sept./Oct. issue of Contingencies, the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries. You might want to be seated before reading this.

Here’s what McCain has to say about the wonders of market-based health reform:

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

So McCain, who now poses as the scourge of Wall Street, was praising financial deregulation like 10 seconds ago — and promising that if we marketize health care, it will perform as well as the financial industry!>>>

*** Hopefully a one time event???? What about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - seems we are already past the 'one time event'.

The "one time event" I was referring to is this (inclusive) crisis and it's ensuing bail-out...as compared to Obama's socialist agenda which will cost the taxpayers nearly a TRILLION dollars in new spending ANNUALLY.

*** We are headed towards socialism without Obama taking office at the current rate.

I see no evidence of that...as long as the Dem Congress keeps going what it's doing...nothing...and the Republicans keep fighting the liberal/socialist agenda.

*** Interesting how different ideologies view the same situation.

I'm often amazed.

*** I am not convinced that this will 'save the economy' - I don't know what would - but this may be just another nail in the coffin.

I'm not a big believer in doom and gloom.

Sorry, Gez, my mistake. I just remember how Ford became president when Nixon resigned. Agnew had actually resigned first. I just am not too fond of Nancy Pelosi,LOL!

Actually, it's still scary, because Palin would appoint someone equally as far Right wing as herself.

A FRONT PAGE STORY in the NEW YORK TIMES was retracted on September 6.

http://time-blog.com/real_clear_politics/2008/09/nyt_issues_retraction.html

There have been dozens and dozens of retractions of lies that were originally posted, then retracted in the main stream press. I have seen many of them posted right here on this board.

Her appointment is subject to Congressional approval.

It is a system of checks and balances. There is no dictator, no absolute authority.

It is a brilliant system, and if you understood it, I believe many you would see that many of your fears are based in lack of understanding.

Well it's clear from the retraction that the NYT wasn't lying. The head of the Independence Party told them Palin was a member and Palin attended lots of their events. Palin's husband was a member. So the NYT had a reasonable basis to believe that Palin had been a member of that party.

You also have to take into account that Palin is unvetted - the McCain campaign has given the press an incredibly short time to come up to speed on the real story.

And the McCain campaign, including Palin herself, hasn't helped. She has repeatedly made bald lies about her record, such as her lie, which she repeats to this day, that she killed the bridge to nowhere. It's whoppers like that which forced even Karl Rove to admit against his interest that the McCain campaign is being less than 100% truthful, i.e. is lying. You know that if Rove calls a Republican a liar, the guy must be a huge liar.

And even before McCain announced Palin they doctored up her page on Wikipedia. I find that one, messing with the Wik, most reprehensible and an affront against all us bloggers.

So when you play holier than thou it doesn't fly.

And those things that were lies or incorrect should have been retracted.

So we are now expected to troll the toledo sites looking to see if a retraction has ever been made? Guess what not all mistakes get retracted - only if someone notices or requests it.

"The Democrats threatened to filibuster is a FACT."

Without legitimate backup, you simply want to believe it's a FACT.

RIght...hope it gets better with the help of candidates with wisdom and experience. Change for change's sake is stupid.
