There is little hope in the choices between Obama and John McCain, Democrat and Republican and so forth.
I see both parties as essentially lobbied and owned by corporate America. The vast majority of the main stream media is also owned by those same corporations. You will certainly not see any news pieces that really get to the roots of how greedy and ruthless companies are and how violent and oppressive our nation is towards others.
Furthermore, both parties are so enthralled with trying to prove to "middle America" how patriotic they are. They fully support this country's endless interventions in the Middle East, Central Asia and elsewhere.
Enormous military spending is a sacred cow; neither party will cut the budget of military spending voluntarily. This country spends more on the military than the rest of the world combined.
The USA, with the exception of the timeframe from FDR to Carter, has been solidly a pseudo-fascist republic. A government either directly supportive or complicit in the exploits of industry.
The common man (woman) in this country is routinely misled by red-herrings, false dichotomies, fear mongering, divisive issues set forth by the establishment.
In case you have any doubts about the validity that we live "democracy" whose institutions are dominated by a few powerful oligarchic entities, just look at what happens with third part candidates. In 2000, when Ralph Nader had a legitimate case to debate with Gore and Bush, both Democrat and Republican parties and the media blocked that form happening. The only third party candidate that was able to crack this stranglehold was Ross Perot, who had the connections to buy the media time.
Throughout this country's history, there has always been a need for a Socialist Party. A party that tones down nationalism, promotes egalitarian values, and takes care of the PEOPLE first.
The view that Capitalism is the best way for an economy to grow is false, there are Socialist countries that have faster growing economies, higher standards of living than ours, greater tolerance and energy independence.

You had me till you started talking about socialism.
Socialist economies are faster growing? I suppose that depends on how you define 'socialism.' China looks pretty capitalist to me.
Capitalism is the best overall system, because it encourages individuals to be all they can be. It needs to be tempered by regulation and safety nets, as well as other things necessary to a modern society (education, as one example.)
Many Americans lament the path of our nation in international affairs, but all but a handful of us would hold on to capitalism for dear life.
By the way, you had better take a look at nations you deem socialist... if you think there is not some sort of ruling elite, think again.

Exactly what socialistic countries can you name where average people fare well and no privileged group exists?
