McCain's Political Theater?

I think McCain's "suspension" of his campaign to go to DC and sit around while Congress hammers out a bailout plan is just political theater.  I am not sure that McCain's presence is required at all.  He will need to vote on a bill either way, but he can fly in, vote and be back on the trail.  Also, I think postponing the debate is another political stunt.   You know, "country first."  Our country's representatives cannot work on this program without McCain and his campaign lobbyists sitting there sounds a bit ridiculous.   I think this political theater will play well to the base, but I think it makes McCain look like he cannot multi-task well enough to campaign then go vote on a bill.

I agree that Friday's debate, if on foreign policy, will be won by McCain.

McCain is playing games. By his own admission, economics is not his forte, he's not the chairman or co-chair of any of the pertinent committees, and this is more about acting a role, than fulfilling a duty.

Look at the timing too. Obama shows his cards, says "Let's issue a joint statement". SIX hours later, McCain ups the ante, announces he's going to suspend his campaign, still without responding to the Obama campaign. He and his campaign are playing political poker.

I know that difficult times are upon us, but it isn't necessary to "suspend" the campaign.

At the time it looked like there would be a speedy resolution. When days went by and it was clear the proposal was not acceptable to the Republicans, it is McCain's responsibility as the leader of our party to step in and try to work it out. Apparently Obama has not taken the responsibility to lead his party into a resolution seriously, or has not felt capable of doing it.

Unfortunately greedy congressmen and businessmen have made a mess. We have been in messes before, and always come through them, because the fundamentals of our economy ARE STRONG.

What specific Senate task will McCain do prior to the actual vote on a bill?

As our presidential nominee he is the leader of our party. Harry Reid said just two days ago that if McCain doesn't vote for this bill - no Democrat will. It is imperative that there is a bill produced that McCain can vote for. So far, Republicans are NOT on board for this bill. As the leader of our party he is the ONLY one who can possibly get the Republicans on board. He outlined in a speech this morning the changes that Republicans want.

Obama has decided that he isn't needed to lead his party. They'll call him if they need him.

McCain wants to focus on the countries problems and not on the politics of running for President.
