McCain's Political Theater?

I think McCain's "suspension" of his campaign to go to DC and sit around while Congress hammers out a bailout plan is just political theater.  I am not sure that McCain's presence is required at all.  He will need to vote on a bill either way, but he can fly in, vote and be back on the trail.  Also, I think postponing the debate is another political stunt.   You know, "country first."  Our country's representatives cannot work on this program without McCain and his campaign lobbyists sitting there sounds a bit ridiculous.   I think this political theater will play well to the base, but I think it makes McCain look like he cannot multi-task well enough to campaign then go vote on a bill.

Wherever either of the two candidates go lately, they bring an entourage of security and press (cameras/reporters) as well as their staff.

Considering that Obama or McCain will be our next President soon, I think they both need to be involved in this, more than just by casting a vote after reading or being briefed.

I guess if McCain isn't on the specific committees working on this, he could sit there and observe and learn, but what would he bring to the table that would help?

Actually it was Harry Reid that said it "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, the top Senate Democrat, also called for the debate to go on.

"It would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation's economy," Reid said in a statement issued by his office. "If that changes, we will call upon them. We need leadership, not a campaign photo op.""

IF they are not on the committee dealing with the issue then what exactly are they going to be doing while this is discussed 'in committee'? Wouldn't they have to wait until it is brought to the floor for a debate? Sounds like a bit of grandstanding to me. Not that I think you will agree. Funny thing is is each candidate were doing the opposite right now you would be right in there criticizing anyway. Doesn't really matter what either of them do until it comes down to a vote. The people on either side will stand behind their candidate and criticize the opponent. May as well admit it. Sides have been drawn.
