McCain's Political Theater?

I think McCain's "suspension" of his campaign to go to DC and sit around while Congress hammers out a bailout plan is just political theater.  I am not sure that McCain's presence is required at all.  He will need to vote on a bill either way, but he can fly in, vote and be back on the trail.  Also, I think postponing the debate is another political stunt.   You know, "country first."  Our country's representatives cannot work on this program without McCain and his campaign lobbyists sitting there sounds a bit ridiculous.   I think this political theater will play well to the base, but I think it makes McCain look like he cannot multi-task well enough to campaign then go vote on a bill.

If they aren't on the committee, what exactly are they going to do?

I understand what you are saying, that they have a job to do.

I like to think I'm logical, so I'm glad someone else thinks so, too!

They could use the time voting for other bills, amendments, etc.

I certainly hope MY senators aren't sitting around twiddling their thumbs during this crisis! I would hope they are discussing this problem with experts and with each other to try to do what is best for this country. Once the bill comes out of committee, the other Senators will have to be up on what is going on in order to offer intelligent discourse. I hope that the man and woman that Texas sent there is doing that, and John McCain and Senator Obama should be doing that too. Again, I am APPALLED at how much work these men are allowed to miss and still keep their jobs - much less get promoted. Only in congress. Let them try that in the real world...

What position does McCain hold with regard to the committees working on this?

I think that is an excellent idea.
