McCain's Political Theater?

I think McCain's "suspension" of his campaign to go to DC and sit around while Congress hammers out a bailout plan is just political theater. I am not sure that McCain's presence is required at all. He will need to vote on a bill either way, but he can fly in, vote and be back on the trail. Also, I think postponing the debate is another political stunt. You know, "country first." Our country's representatives cannot work on this program without McCain and his campaign lobbyists sitting there sounds a bit ridiculous. I think this political theater will play well to the base, but I think it makes McCain look like he cannot multi-task well enough to campaign then go vote on a bill.

That is not true. Last night I was discussing with my husband this very thing - that I thought they WERE BOTH idiots for not going back to Washington and doing their job. Not only do I think it is what they were hired to do, I think it's a stupid political move to keep on campaigning when the country is on the verge of a crisis.
And yesterday Harry Reid was criticizing McCain for not being there, then today he has a sudden change of mind. How transparent is that???

Yes!
It was a veto proof bill because it had overwhelming bi-partisan support. The vote in the senate was 90-8. Biden voted for it, McCain wasn't there to vote that day. Almost all the Democrats voted for it. Clinton was overjoyed.
"This legislation is truly historic and it indicates what can happen when Republicans and Democrats work together in a spirit of genuine cooperation," Clinton said at a White House signing ceremony.
Clinton said the measure will "save consumers billions of dollars a year through enhanced competition." He said it also would protect consumers' rights and require banks to expand the availability of funds for community development.
